Safety precautions Using your ASUS Transformer Book This ASUS Transformer Book should only be used in environments with ambient temperatures between 5°C (41°F) and 35°C (95°F). Refer to the rating label on the bottom of your ASUS Transformer Book and ensure that your power adapter complies with this rating. Do not leave your ASUS Transformer Book on your lap or near any part of your body to prevent discomfort or injury from heat exposure.
Caring for your ASUS Transformer Book Disconnect the AC power and remove the battery pack (if applicable) before cleaning your ASUS Transformer Book. Use a clean cellulose sponge or chamois cloth dampened with a solution of nonabrasive detergent and a few drops of warm water. Remove any extra moisture from your ASUS Transformer Book using a dry cloth. Do not use strong solvents such as thinners, benzene, or other chemicals on or near your ASUS Transformer Book.
Proper disposal Do not throw your ASUS Transformer Book in municipal waste. This product has been designed to enable proper reuse of parts and recycling. The symbol of the crossed out wheeled bin indicates that the product (electrical, electronic equipment and mercury-containing button cell battery) should not be placed in municipal waste. Check local regulations for disposal of electronic products. Do not throw the battery in municipal waste.

Getting to know your ASUS Transformer Book NOTE: The keyboard's layout may vary per region or country. The Notebook view may also vary in appearance depending on the ASUS Transformer Book model.
Touch panel display front camera The built-in camera allows you to take pictures or record videos using your ASUS Transformer Book. NOTE: To toggle between the front and rear cameras (on selected models) of the touch panel display, press the ASUS Transformer Book key then select Camera Rotation. Camera indicator The camera indicator lights up when the built-in camera is in use. Ambient light sensor This ambient light sensor detects the amount of ambient light in your environment.
Touch panel display holder This holder allows you to connect the touch panel display to the ASUS Transformer Book’s mobile dock. WARNING! Dock the touch panel display before adjusting the angle of the touch display panel holder. For more details, refer to the Undocking or docking the touch panel display section in this manual. Dock latch Move the latch to the left and hold it to detach the touch panel display from the dock.
Touch panel display features The ASUS Transformer Book comes with a detachable touch panel display that works like a Tablet PC to suit your mobile needs. The touch panel display is also equipped with its own features for work and play. NOTE: For more details on detaching or reattaching the touch panel display, refer to the Undocking or docking the touch panel display section in this manual. Top view Power button Press the power button to turn your ASUS Transformer Book on or off.
Bottom view MicroSD card slot The touch panel display comes with an additional builtin memory card reader slot that supports microSD and microSDHC card formats. Hinge holes Align and insert the latch hooks into these holes to securely attach the touch panel display to the dock. Magnetic power connector When the touch panel display is detached from the dock, connect the bundled power adapter into this connector to charge the battery pack and supply power to the touch panel display.
Rear view Touch panel display rear camera (on selected models) The built-in camera allows you to take pictures or record videos using your ASUS Transformer Book. NOTE: To toggle between the front and rear cameras (on selected models) of the touch panel display, press the ASUS Transformer Book key then select Camera Rotation. Air vents The air vents allow cool air to enter and warm air to exit the ASUS Transformer Book’s touch panel display.
Right Side LAN port Insert the network cable into this port to connect to a local area network (LAN). USB 3.0 ports These Universal Serial Bus 3.0 (USB 3.0) ports provide a transfer rate of up to 5 Gbit/s and are backward compatible to USB 2.0. Mini DisplayPort Use this port to connect your ASUS Transformer Book to a DisplayPort or VGA external display. NOTE: This mini DisplayPort does not support DP++ (Dualmode DisplayPort) functions.
Left Side Magnetic power connector This power connector allows you to magnetically attach the power connector of your AC adapter to your ASUS Transformer Book. Connect the bundled power adapter into this connector to charge the battery pack and supply power to your ASUS Transformer Book. WARNING! The adapter may become warm to hot while in use. Ensure not to cover the adapter and keep it away from your body while it is connected to a power source.
Color Status Solid Green The ASUS Transformer Book’s mobile dock or touch panel display is plugged to a power source, charging its battery, and the battery power is between 95% and 100%. Solid Orange • The ASUS Transformer Book’s mobile dock is plugged to a power source, charging its battery, and the battery power is less than 95%. • The touch panel is connected to the mobile dock, charging its battery, and the touch panel display’s battery power is less than 30%.
Drive activity indicator This indicator lights up when your ASUS Transformer Book is accessing the internal storage drives. Headphone output/microphone input combo jack port This port allows you to connect your ASUS Transformer Book to amplified speakers or headphones. You can also use this port to connect your ASUS Transformer Book to an external microphone.

Getting started Charge your ASUS Transformer Book. A. Plug the AC power adapter into a 100V~240V power source. B. Connect the DC power connector into your ASUS Transformer Book’s power (DC) input. Charge the ASUS Transformer Book for 3 hours before using it in battery mode for the first time. IMPORTANT! • Ensure that your ASUS Transformer Book is plugged -in to a grounded power outlet before turning it on for the first time.
Lift to open the touch panel display. Press the power button.
Undocking or docking the touch panel display.
Docking NOTE: When docking the touch panel display while the system is turned on, Windows® 8 automatically detects the available storage drives in the touch panel display and launches their respective storage drive windows via Autoplay. To disable this feature: 1. Go to the Windows® 8 Control Panel. 2. Select Small icons under View by then select Autoplay from the list of icons. 2. Under Removable drives, select Take no action from the Removable drive option list. 3.
Gestures for the touch screen and touchpad Gestures allow you to launch programs and access the settings of your ASUS Transformer Book. Refer to the following illustrations when using hand gestures on your touch screen and touchpad. Using the touch screen 28 Left edge swipe Right edge swipe Swipe from the left edge of the screen to shuffle your running apps. Swipe from the right edge of the screen to launch the Charms bar. Zoom out Zoom in Bring together your two fingers on the touch panel.
Top edge swipe Finger slide • In the Start screen, swipe from the top edge of the screen to view the All Apps bar. Slide your finger to scroll up and down and slide your finger to pan the screen left or right. • In a running app, swipe from the top edge of the screen to view its menu. Tap and hold Tap/Double tap • • Tap an app to launch it. • On Desktop mode, doubletap an application to launch it. • To move an app, tap and hold the app tile and drag it to a new location.
Using the touchpad Moving the pointer You can tap or click anywhere on the touchpad to activate its pointer, then slide your finger on the touchpad to move the pointer onscreen.
One-finger gestures Tap/Double tap • In the Start screen, tap an app to launch it. • In Desktop mode, double-tap an application to launch it. Drag and drop Double-tap an item, then slide the same finger without lifting it off the touchpad. To drop the item to its new location, lift your finger from the touchpad.
Left-click Right-click • In the Start screen, click an app to launch it. • • In Desktop mode, doubleclick an application to launch it. In the Start screen, click an app to select it and launch the settings bar. You can also press this button to launch the All Apps bar. • In Desktop mode, use this button to open the rightclick menu. NOTE: The areas inside the dotted line represent the locations of the left mouse button and the right mouse button on the touchpad.
Top edge swipe • In the Start screen, swipe from the top edge to launch the All Apps bar. • In a running app, swipe from the top edge to view its menu. Left edge swipe Right edge swipe Swipe from the left edge to shuffle Swipe the right edge to launch your running apps. the Charms bar.

Drag and drop Select an item then press and hold the left button. Using your other finger, slide down the touchpad to drag and drop the item to a new location. Three-finger gestures Swipe up Swipe down Swipe three fingers upward to show all running applications. Swipe three fingers downward to show the Desktop mode.
Using the keyboard Function keys The function keys on your ASUS Transformer Book’s keyboard can trigger the following commands: Puts the ASUS Transformer Book into Sleep mode Turns Airplane mode on or off NOTE: When enabled, the Airplane mode disables all wireless connectivity.
Turns the speaker on or off Turns the speaker volume down Turns the speaker volume up (on selected models) Toggles the ambient light sensor on or off Function keys for ASUS Apps Your ASUS Transformer Book also comes with a special set of function keys that can be used to launch ASUS apps. Toggles the ASUS Splendid Video Enhancement Technology app to switch between these display color enhancement modes: Gamma Correction, Vivid Mode, Theater Mode, Soft Mode, My Profile, and Normal.
Windows®8 keys There are two special Windows® keys on your ASUS Transformer Book’s keyboard used as below: Press this key to go back to the Start screen. If you are already in the Start screen, press this key to go back to the last app you opened. Press this key to simulate the right-click functions. Using the ASUS Transformer Book key Pressing this key launches the ASUS Transformer Book App Launcher inside Windows® 8.

Starting for the first time When you start your computer for the first time, a series of screens appear to guide you in configuring the basic settings of your Windows® 8 operating system. To start your ASUS Transformer Book for the first time: 1. Press the power button on your ASUS Transformer Book. Wait for a few minutes until the setup screen appears. 2. From the setup screen, pick a language to use on your ASUS Transformer Book. 3. Carefully read the License Terms.
Windows® UI Windows® 8 comes with a tile-based user interface (UI) which allows you to organize and easily access Windows® apps from the Start screen. It also includes the following features that you can use while working on your ASUS Transformer Book. Start screen The Start screen appears after successfully signing in to your user account. It helps organize all the applications you need in just one place.
Hotspots Onscreen hotspots allow you to launch programs and access the settings of your ASUS Transformer Book. The functions in these hotspots can be activated using the touchpad.
Hotspot Action upper left corner Hover your mouse pointer on the upper left corner then tap on the recent app’s thumbnail to revert back to that running app. If you launched more than one app, slide down to show all running apps. lower left corner From a running app screen: Hover your mouse pointer on the lower left corner then tap on the Start screen’s thumbnail to go back to the Start screen. NOTE: You can also press the Windows key on your keyboard to go back to the Start screen.
Working with Windows® apps Use your ASUS Tranformer Book’s touch screen touch panel display, touchpad, or keyboard to launch, customize, and close apps. Launching apps Tap an app to launch it. Position your mouse pointer over the app then left-click or tap once to launch it. Press twice then use the arrow keys to browse through the apps. Press to launch an app.
Resizing apps 1. Swipe down the app tile to select and launch the settings bar. 2. Tap to reduce or to enlarge the app tile. Right-click on the app to activate its settings bar then tap or . Unpinning apps 1. Swipe down the app tile to select and launch the settings bar. 2. Tap to unpin an app. Right-click on the app to activate the settings bar then tap .
Closing apps Tap and hold the top side of the running app then drag it down to the bottom of the screen to close it. 1. Move your mouse pointer on the top side of the launched app then wait for the pointer to change to a hand icon. 2. Drag then drop the app to the bottom of the screen to close it. From the running app’s screen, press 46 .
Accessing the Apps screen Aside from the apps already pinned on your Start screen, you can also open other applications through the Apps screen. Horizontal scroll bar Launching the Apps screen Launch the Apps screen using your ASUS Transformer Book’s touch screen touch panel display, touchpad, or keyboard. 1. Swipe from the top or bottom edge of the screen to launch the All Apps bar. 2. Tap to show all installed apps in your Notebook PC. Swipe from the top edge to launch the All Apps bar.
Pinning more apps on the Start screen You can pin more apps on the Start screen using your touch screen touch panel display or touchpad. 1. In the Apps screen, swipe down the app to select and launch the settings bar. 2. Tap to pin the selected app on the Start screen. 48 1. Position the mouse pointer over the app you want to pin on the Start screen. 2. Right-click on the app to activate its settings. 3. Tap on the icon.
Charms bar The Charms bar is a toolbar that can be triggered on the right side of your screen. It consists of several tools that allow you to share applications and provide quick access for customizing the settings of your ASUS Transformer Book. Launching the Charms bar Charms bar NOTE: When called out, the Charms bar initially appears as a set of white icons. The image above shows how the Charms bar looks like once activated.
Inside the Charms bar Search This tool allows you to look for files, applications, or programs in your ASUS Transformer Book. Share This tool allows you to share applications via social networking sites or email. Start This tool reverts the display back to the Start screen. From the Start screen, you can also use this to return to a recently opened app. Devices This tool allows you to access and share files with the devices attached to your ASUS Transformer Book such as an external display or printer.
Snap feature The Snap feature displays two apps side-by-side, allowing you to work or switch between apps. IMPORTANT! Ensure that your ASUS Transformer Book’s screen resolution is set to 1366 x 768 pixels or higher before using the Snap feature. Snap bar Using Snap Use your ASUS Transformer Book’s touch screen touch panel display, touchpad, or keyboard to activate and use Snap. 1. Launch the app you wish to snap. 2.

Connecting to wireless networks Wi-Fi Access emails, surf the Internet, and share applications via social networking sites using your ASUS Transformer Book’s Wi-Fi connection. IMPORTANT! Ensure the Airplane mode is turned off to enable the Wi-Fi function of your ASUS Transformer Book. For more details, refer to the Airplane mode section in this manual. Enabling Wi-Fi Activate Wi-Fi in your ASUS Transformer Book using the following steps on your touch screen touch panel display or touchpad. 1.
4. Tap Connect to start the network connection. NOTE: You may be prompted to enter a security key to activate the Wi-Fi connection. 5. 56 If you want to enable sharing between your ASUS Transformer Book and other wireless-enabled systems, tap Yes, turn on sharing and connect to devices. Tap No, don't turn on sharing or connect to devices if you do not want to enable the sharing function.
Bluetooth Use Bluetooth to facilitate wireless data transfers with other Bluetooth-enabled devices. IMPORTANT! Ensure the Airplane mode is turned off to enable the Bluetooth function of your ASUS Transformer Book. For more details, refer to the Airplane mode section in this manual. Pairing with other Bluetooth-enabled devices You need to pair your ASUS Transformer Book with other Bluetoothenabled devices to enable data transfers.
4. Select a device from the list. Compare the passcode on your ASUS Transformer Book with the passcode sent to your chosen device. If they are the same, tap Yes to successfully pair your ASUS Transformer Book with the device. NOTE: For some bluetooth-enabled devices, you may be prompted to key in the passcode of your ASUS Transformer Book.
Airplane mode The Airplane mode disables wireless communication, allowing you to use your ASUS Transformer Book safely while in-flight. Turning Airplane mode on or 1. Launch the Charms bar. 2. Tap 3. Connecting to wired networks You can also connect to wired networks, such as local area networks and broadband Internet connection, using your ASUS Transformer Book’s LAN port. NOTE: Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for details or your network administrator for assistance in setting up your Internet connection. To configure your settings, refer to the following procedures.
5. Tap Internet Protocol Version 4(TCP/IPv4) then tap Properties. 6. Tap Obtain an IP address automatically then tap OK. NOTE: Proceed to the next steps if you are using PPPoE connection.
7. Return to the Network and Sharing Center window then tap Set up a new connection or network. 8. Select Connect to the Internet then tap Next.
9. Tap Broadband (PPPoE). 10. Type your User name, Password, and Connection name then tap Connect. 11. Tap Close to finish the configuration. 12. Tap on the taskbar then tap the connection you just created. 13. Type your user name and password then tap Connect to start connecting to the Internet.
Configuring a static IP network connection or 64 1. Repeat steps 1 to 5 under Configuring a dynamic IP/PPPoE network connection. 2 Tap Use the following IP address. 3. Type the IP address, Subnet mask and Default gateway from your service provider. 4. If needed, you can also type the preferred DNS server address and alternate DNS server address then tap OK.
Turning your ASUS Transformer Book off You can turn off your ASUS Transformer Book by doing either of the following procedures: • Tap from the Charms bar then tap > Shut down to do a normal shutdown. or > Shut down. • From the log-in screen, tap • You can also shut down your ASUS Transformer Book using Desktop mode. To do this, launch the desktop then press alt + f4 to launch the Shut Down window. Select Shut Down from the drop-down list then select OK.

Featured ASUS Apps LifeFrame Enhance your webcam functions through the LifeFrame app. Create snapshots, edit photos, record videos, record audio files, use your webcam as a security monitoring device, and play games using this app. To launch LifeFrame Press . The archive toolbar displays a function's saved files in thumbnail view.
LifeFrame functions Camera Use this function to take pictures using your webcam. Camcorder Use this function to take videos through your webcam. Monitor This function lets you use your webcam as a security video monitor as it automatically detects movement then captures it on photo. Voice Recorder Use this function to record audio files in your ASUS Transformer Book. Game This function lets you play games using the webcam.
Power4Gear Hybrid Optimize the performance of your ASUS Transformer Book using the power saving modes in Power4Gear. NOTE: Unplugging the ASUS Transformer Book from its power adapter automatically switches Power4Gear Hybrid to Battery Saving mode. To launch Power4Gear Hybrid . Press Select from these power saving modes. Use these options to customize your power saving mode. Allows you to hide the desktop icons onscreen and turns the presentation mode on or off.
Instant On Save battery power while your ASUS Transformer Book is on deep sleep mode (Deep S3) using Instant On. NOTE: Deep S3 is a technology that lets you save more battery power while your ASUS Transformer Book is on sleep mode. IMPORTANT! The standby time varies according to your ASUS Transformer Book's remaining battery capacity, computer model, configuration, and operating conditions. Performance mode This mode is default-enabled in your ASUS Transformer Book.
ASUS Transformer Book App Launcher Your ASUS Transformer Book comes with a home page that provides a one-tap access to some of the ASUS apps you can launch on Windows® 8. To access the ASUS Transformer Book App Launcher: Tap on the Start screen. or Press 72 .
ASUS Transformer Book App Launcher NOTE: • The ASUS Transformer Book App Launcher may change or be updated without prior notice. • The following screenshots are for reference only. The actual information displayed on your ASUS Transformer Book may vary. • The Camera Rotation and Touch Pad apps are available on selected models only.
System Information This app provides a system information overview of your ASUS Transformer Book’s SSD (Solid State Drive) storage space and your unit’s memory space. Tutorial Launch the Windows® 8 Guide and ASUS Smart Gesture AP by tapping on the icons inside the Tutorial app.
Power4Gear The Power4Gear app inside the ASUS Transformer Book App Launcher allows you to quickly switch between these two power saving options: Performance and Battery Saving. NOTE: For more details on Power4Gear, refer to the Power4Gear Hybrid section in this manual. Move this switch to the left or right to turn the Battery Saving mode off or on.
Splendid Tap this app to launch the ASUS Splendid Video Enhancement Technology window and switch between these display modes: Normal, Theater, Vivid, Manual. To use Splendid: 1. Tap Splendid on the ASUS Transformer Book App Launcher. 2. In the ASUS Splendid Technology window, tap the mode you want to activate. modes Move the slider to the left or to the right to adjust the color temperature manually. Tap this if you want to reset the color temperature to 0.
Audio Wizard AudioWizard allows you to customize the sound modes of your ASUS Transformer Book for a clearer audio output that fits actual usage scenarios. To use AudioWizard: 1. Tap AudioWizard on the ASUS Transformer Book App Launcher. 2. In the AudioWizard window, tap the sound mode you want to activate. NOTE: Tap OFF if you want to deactivate any of the sound modes you previously saved. 3. Tap Done to save the selected sound mode and exit the AudioWizard window.
ASUS Cloud Tap this app to launch the ASUS Cloud Services home page and get quick access to the following cloud-based apps: ASUS Webstorage and Live Update ASUS Cloud Services home page 78 ASUS Transformer Book E-Manual
Battery Up This app allows you to reserve the mobile dock’s full battery power to supply power to the detachable touch display panel. IMPORTANT! This app is only activated when your ASUS Transformer Book runs on battery mode. To enable this app, ensure that your ASUS Transformer Book is unplugged from a power source. Move this switch to the left or right to activate or deactivate Battery Up.
Touch Pad (on selected models) This app allows you to activate or deactivate the touchpad of your ASUS Transformer Book so you can use the keyboard more conveniently. Move this switch to the left or right to toggle between OFF and ON.

The Power-on Self Test (POST) The Power-on Self Test (POST) is a series of software-controlled diagnostic tests that run when you turn on or restart your ASUS Transformer Book. The software that controls the POST is installed as a permanent part of the ASUS Transformer Book’s architecture. Using POST to access BIOS and Troubleshoot During POST, you can access the BIOS settings or run troubleshooting options using the function keys of your ASUS Transformer Book.

Security This menu allows you to set up the administrator and user password of your ASUS Transformer Book. It also allows you to control the access to your ASUS Transformer Book’s hard disk drive, input/output (I/O) interface, and USB interface.
