7.2 Networking and remote control
The
CHROMOFLEX
®
Pro
is working on a radio frequency of 868.3 MHz. This frequency is often used for
other radio controls and wireless sensors. Very strict regulations ensure that operation, free from interference, is
possible. Therefore
CHROMOFLEX
®
Pro
uses a bidirectional communication to ensure reliable operation,
meaning the Remote Control or the USB-Dongle requires an acknowledgement from the
CHROMOFLEX
®
Pro
.
A basic application is using one
CHROMOFLEX
®
Pro
and either remote control or USB-Dongle. Both units
have to be set on the same net. This is also the default factory setup mode (default: network 10). When using
the software “ProCEd” various groups can be set to control several nets independently.
With several
CHROMOFLEX
®
Pro
modules in the same net, fixed colors and programmes will run
synchronously. Within this net, one unit has to be selected as master by using the software “ProCEd”. It will
forward it´s settings (and time base) periodically to all modules in the same net.
Even if other modules, non-masters, are switched on later, they will receive the settings from the Master only a
few seconds later.
The master does not need acknowledgement from the other units in the network, since the data is repeated
every 10 seconds. If a module once doesn't receive a signal (because of interferences or other devices), it
doesn't matter.
Fig. 8
In practice it proved efficiently to set one unit as master in the middle of the network. More than one master
within one network is pointless. It is not a problem if one of the other units is too far from the master, since the
master settings are forwarded by the slaves within the system. For improved overview and less data transfer
within larger networks it is possible to deactivate this forwarding. This setting has to be activated using the
software. More details in the software manual.
The remote control responds to all units within radio range. If the master is out of this range, it will proceed
sending his settings to the slaves. Therefore it is important that the master is within the range of the remote
control.
Note about the range
: The Radio Remote Control has a less strong antenna than the
CHROMOFLEX
®
Pro
units or the USB Dongle. Normally the range of the R
adio Remote Control is below the range of the master to
the other units. To achieve a good performance, we recommend ensuring that the antenna of the
CHROMOFLEX
®
Pro
unit is straight ´into the air´. However, dense materials like stone, concrete and metal
parts may reduce the range significantly, especially when close to the antenna. In case of weak signal, it is quite
enough to move the units only a few centimetres next to each other. The recommended minimum distance
between two
CHROMOFLEX
®
units is 25 centimetres.
