To avoid kickback:
x Saw with guide bar at a flat angle.
x Never work with a loose, widely stretched or the heavily worn out chain.
x Ensure chain is sharpened correctly.
x Never saw above shoulder height.
x Never work with the tip of the guide bar.
x Always hold the product firmly with both hands.
x Always use a low kickback chain.
x Apply the metal gripping teeth for leverage.
x Ensure correct chain tension.
x Do only cut with the engine at high speeds.
x Do not let the nose of the guide bar contact a log, branch, or any other
obstruction which could be hit while you are operating the product.
x Follow manufacturer’s sharpening and maintenance instructions for the
saw chain.
x Only use replacement guide bars and saw chains specified by the
manufacturer or equivalent replacements.
WARNING! Most ‘kickback’ accidents happen during limbing! Pay
close attention to the position of the ‘kickback’ zone of th
e bar
when you are ‘limbing’ branches that are under tension.
7. Felling a tree
1. When bucking and felling operations are being performed by two or more
persons at the same time, the felling operations should be separated from
the bucking operation by a distance of at least twice the height of the tree
being felled. Trees should not be felled in a manner that would endanger any
person, strike any utility line or cause any property damage. If the tree does
make contact with any utility line, the company should be notified
immediately.
2. The product operator should keep on the uphill side of the terrain as the tree
is likely to roll or slide downhill after it is felled.
