LEED Compliance Statement for
Zinc Die Cast Fittings, Malleable Iron Fittings, Zinc-Plated Steel parts and
Components, & Non-Metallic Fittings and Components
To Our Valued Customers,
Bridgeport Fittings, Inc has received numerous requests for a LEED Certification” of
our products. Through the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), The Leadership in Energy
and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System™ is defined as a third-
party certification program and the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction
and operation of high performance green buildings. LEED gives building owners and
operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’
performance. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing
performance in five key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development,
water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
The USGBC is a non-profit environmental organization for builders, designers, and/or
engineering firms. This initiative is designed to promote the environmentally responsible
design/build of facilities. However, becoming a "LEED - Certified" manufacturer is not
possible. The following is an excerpt from the FAQ section on the USGBC website
http://www.usgbc.org/DisplayPage.aspx?CMSPageID=1819#Product :
"USGBC does not certify, endorse or promote products, services or companies, nor do
we track, list or report data related to products and their environmental qualities.
LEED is a certification system that deals with the environmental performance of
buildings based on overall characteristics of the project. We do not award credits
based on the use of particular products but rather upon meeting the performance
standards set forth in our rating systems. It is up to project teams to determine
which products are most appropriate for credit achievement and program
requirements."
Since Bridgeport Fittings is a manufacturer, a LEED manufacturer or product
'certification' is not applicable in our case. The USGBC clearly defines that the LEED
program is for "Architects, real estate professionals, facility managers, engineers, interior
designers, landscape architects, construction managers, lenders and government officials all
use LEED to help transform the built environment to sustainability."
