On/Off key 3
You can turn the machine on and off by
pressing the On/Off key.
Note
• If you press the On/Off key while the
machine is in use it will finish the operation
before going into the Off mode.
• If you have connected an external
telephone or TAD, it is always available.
Turning the machine off 3
a Press the On/Off key. The LCD will tell
you that you cannot use the phone once
it is switched off.
Press Yes.
The LCD shows Shutting Down and
will stay on for a few seconds before
going off.

a Press the On/Off key.
Power Off setting 3
You can customize the machine's On/Off
key. The factory setting is
Fax Receive:Off (MFC-790CW) and
Fax Receive:On (MFC-990CW). Your
machine will not work when it is switched off,
but it will clean the print head periodically. If
you turn this setting to Fax Receive:On,
you can receive faxes (or calls for
MFC-790CW only) even when the machine is
switched off. (See On/Off key on this page.)

PwrOff Setting.
e Press PwrOff Setting.
f Press Fax Receive:Off or
Fax Receive:On.
(MFC-790CW) Go to step h.
(MFC-990CW) If you choose
Fax Receive:On, go to step g.
If you choose Fax Receive:Off,
go to step h.
g Press Ring Tone:On.
Make sure you set the Ring Volume to
Low, Med or High. (See Ring Volume
on page 26.)
h Press Stop/Exit.
Note
If you choose Ring Tone:Off, the
machine will not ring when you receive a
call.
