Connecting Using Wi-Fi
®
(RJ-2050/2140/2150 Only) 1
The following Wi-Fi connection methods are available:
Wireless Direct
Infrastructure Mode
Infrastructure Mode + Wireless Direct
Ad-hoc Mode (To set the Ad-Hoc mode, use the Printer Setting Tool (see Changing the Printer Settings
on page 34).) (Not all computers, mobile devices, and operating systems, may support Ad-hoc mode.)
WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup™)
Wireless Direct 1
Wireless Direct allows you to connect the printer to your computer or mobile device directly without a Wi-Fi
access point/router; the printer serves as a Wi-Fi access point.
1 Confirm the Wireless Direct settings of the printer.
Using your printer
1 On your printer, press the [Menu], [ ] button to select the [WLAN] menu, and then press the [OK]
button.
2 Press the [ ] button to select the [Mode] menu, and then press the [OK] button.
3 Select [Direct], and then press the [OK] button. The Wireless Direct icon appears on the LCD.
For computers
Connect the printer and computer with a USB cable. Start the Printer Setting Tool on your computer,
and click the [Communication Settings] button. Confirm that [Wireless Direct] is selected for
[Selected Interface] in the [General] tab.

2 On your printer, press the [Menu], [ ] button to select the [WLAN] menu, and then press the [OK] button.
Set [On/Off] to [On].
3 Use your computer or mobile device to select the SSID of your printer ("DIRECT-*****_RJ-XXXX"). If
required, enter the password ("205*****" for RJ-2050, "214*****" for RJ-2140, or "215*****" for RJ-2150).
***** is the last five digits of the serial number.
Note
You can change the printer’s network settings using the Printer Setting Tool (see Changing the Printer
Settings on page 34).
The Printer Setting Tool also allows you to apply the network settings changes to multiple printers. (See
Applying Setting Changes to Multiple Printers on page 51.)
You can find the serial number label on the back of the printer.
You can also confirm the serial number by printing the printer information (see Printing the Printer
Information on page 71).
You cannot connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi while using Wireless Direct. To use the Internet, connect using
Infrastructure Mode.
