Before Using the Scanner Important Safety Instructions ● Avoid exposing the scanner to rapid changes in temperature. If the room in which the scanner is installed is cold but rapidly heated, water droplets (condensation) may form inside the scanner. This may result in a noticeable degradation in scanning quality. The following conditions are recommended for optimal scanning quality: Room temperature: 10 °C to 32.5 °C (50 °F to 90.
● The supplied power cord set is intended for use with this scanner only. Do not use it with other electronic equipment. In addition, do not use power cord sets other than the one supplied with the scanner. Doing so may result in fire or electric shock. ● Do not take the scanner apart or modify it. ● Never try to take the AC adapter apart or modify it in any way, as this is dangerous. ● Do not use flammable spray near the scanner.
● Do not place objects on top of the scanner. Such objects may tip or fall over, resulting in personal injury. ● Connect only to a power outlet of the rated voltage and power supply frequency (120 V, 60 Hz or 220-240 V, 50/60 Hz depending on your region). Doing so might cause a fire or electric shock. ● When unplugging the power cord, grasp it firmly by its plug. Do not pull directly on the power cord, as this may damage or expose the cord’s internal wiring, resulting in a fire or electric shock.
Features of the Scanner ● Auto Resolution Detection When enabled in the CaptureOnTouch or scanner driver settings, this function detects the content of documents and determines the scanning resolution automatically. ● Folio Scan You can scan folded documents. The scanner will scan both sides and combine the scanned images into a single image. ● Deskew The scanner is equipped with a deskew function that straightens images before saving them when documents are scanned askew.
● Prescan Function The scanner is equipped with a Prescan function that allows you to adjust the contrast and brightness of a prescanned image and then send the adjusted image to the application software, without needing to scan the document again. ● Character/Line Emphasis Function If characters and lines in scanned images are not clearly visible, you can use this function to adjust their thickness during scanning.

Displayed Error Codes When a scanning error occurs, the following error codes are displayed in the Job No. Indicator. : displayed when the front unit is open.
Basic Operation Documents The scanner can scan documents ranging in size from business cards to LTR/A4. The document sizes that this scanner can scan are shown below. Align the centers ☮䳎ቑ₼㉒ት㙒ራቮ Plain Paper Size Width: 50.8 mm to 216 mm (2" to 8.5") Length: 54 mm to 356 mm (2.1" to 14") (You can scan documents up to 3,000 mm (118.1") long by setting the scanner to the Long Document mode.) Paper thickness Normal feed: 27 to 209 g/m2 (7 to 56 lb bond) 0.04 mm to 0.25 mm (0.00157" to 0.
• Scanning the following types of documents can cause a paper jam or malfunction. To scan such a document, make a photocopy of the document and then scan the photocopy. There are creases or fold lines. Carbon paper There are curls. The surface is coated. There are tears. Extremely thin document such as semi-transparent thin paper. There are clips or staples. Documents with excessive paper dust particles. Passport Size: 88 mm x 125 mm (3.464" x 4.
How to Place Documents When placing long documents, pull out the document eject extension support to match the length of those documents. Also, stand the eject stopper at the end of the eject support if necessary. Scanning multiple documents Standard paper feeding should be used when scanning multiple documents of a standard size at one time. Standard paper feeding enables multiple documents to be fed while separating each page. 1 Open the document eject tray.
4 6 Set the feed selection lever to Normal mode. Place the document. After placing the document, align the document guides with both edges of the document. 5 Adjust the document guides to fit the width of the document to be scanned. IMPORTANT • When placing documents into the feed tray, take care not to cut your hand on the edges of the paper. • Before you place a document, check to make sure it does not contain paper clips, staples, or other small metal objects.
When scanning a document one page at a time (non separation mode) Loading passports To scan a passport, insert the passport into the separately sold carrier sheet (for passports) and then place it onto the scanner. When scanning a thick document one page at a time or scanning a document that has multiple pages fastened together, set the feed selection lever to Bypass mode. This enables the placed document to be scanned without the pages being separated, regardless of the number of pages.
3 • Carrier sheet is a consumable item. Replace it with a new one when necessary, if there are clear damages or smudges. Load the document with the page you want to scan facing down. Placing Cards When scanning cards, set the feed selection lever to Bypass mode and then place one card at a time horizontally. 1 Set the feed selection lever to Bypass mode After placing the document, align the document guides with both edges of the document.
CAUTION Placing Folded Documents • Place the cards one at a time. • When scanning cards, place them to be fed horizontally. If you place cards to be fed vertically, they may not be ejected properly, and cards that get jammed may be damaged when you remove them. Folio Scan enables you to scan documents that are larger than LTR/ A4 and therefore do not fit in the feeder. To use the function, fold the document in half lengthwise and place it into the feeder.
4 Place the document with the folded edge facing right and the top edge facing downward. 1 Opens the scanner driver's Detail Settings screen. (See p. 63) 2 Set [Page Size] on the [Basic] tab to a size that is half that of the paper to be actually scanned, and set [Scanning Side] to [Folio]. For example, when scanning a document of A3 size folded, set [Page Size] to [A4]. IMPORTANT Adjust the document guides to fit the width of the document. Otherwise, the image may scan as skewed or shifted.
Setting the Long Document Mode 1 The length of documents that can be scanned with the scanner is normally 356 mm (14"), but you can scan documents up to 3,000 mm (118.1") long by setting the scanner to the Long Document mode. Problem 11 Memory becomes insufficient and scanning stops. Problem 13 Passport cannot be scanned as intended Solutions Solutions Depending on the condition of the carrier sheet or passport, the image may not be scanned completely or the scanner's image correction may not function properly. Configure the settings as shown below. (1) Set [Page Size] to a larger paper size (A4, for example) on the scanner driver settings screen, and then scan again. (See p.
Software Troubleshooting This section describes troubleshooting problems and solutions for operating the supplied software (CaptureOnTouch and CapturePerfect). If scanning is too slow (1) Close other running programs, if any. (2) Scanning can be slowed down by memory shortage caused by memory-resident applications such as anti-virus programs. Close such memory-resident programs if necessary to free up memory space.
