The Comfort of Home
Security, convenience, health and safety. These are the comforts home owners
hold dear. Power outages put all these comforts at risk. Annually millions of people
suffer the effects of a power outage. Some are without electricity for days and
weeks at a time. As we experience increasing numbers of power outages due to
disruptive weather events and we place increasing demands on an overtaxed and
aging power grid we can expect that the number of power outages will continue
to rise – our security, convenience, health and safety will be put at risk.
As anyone who has lived through an extended power outage knows, the romance
of candlelight fades quickly as the fi nancial and emotional costs of keeping your
home and family safe and secure rise.
Live Life Uninterrupted
After Hurricane Sandy we were without
power for nearly two weeks. My kids
thought the  rst night in a candle lit
house was exciting until we heard
that the power might not be restored
for two weeks. After the third day
without power we decided to
check into a hotel. Finding a room
wasn’t easy, between the hotel and
restaurant bills and food spoilage
the outage cost us nearly $2000.
As soon as I could, I bought myself a
standby generator and when storms
knocked out the power to the
neighborhood last winter, our lights
came back on and life continued as
usual within seconds. For me and
my family, that kind of security
is priceless.
