3.4 Power Supply
EXSx2-W needs to be connected to a power supply at the SMT application interface - 2 lines
BATT+, and GND. There are two separate voltage domains for BATT+:
•BATT+
BB
with a line mainly for the baseband power supply.
•BATT+
RF
with a line for the GSM power amplifier supply. Please note that this line needs
only be connected for GSM (2G/3G) availability.
Please note that BATT+ in this document refers to both voltage domains and power supply
lines - BATT+
BB
and BATT+
RF
.
The power supply of EXSx2-W has to be a single voltage source at BATT+
BB
and BATT+
RF
.
and must be able to provide the peak current during the uplink transmission. Suitable low ESR
capacitors should be placed as close as possible to the BATT+ pads, e.g., X7R MLCC (see
also Section 2.1.2).
All key functions for supplying power to the device are handled by the power management IC.
It provides the following features:
Stabilizes the supply voltages for the baseband using low drop linear voltage regulators and
a DC-DC step down switching regulator.
Switches the module's power voltages for the power-up and -down procedures.
SIM switch to provide SIM power supply.
3.4.1 Power Supply Ratings
Table 19, Table 20, Table 21, Table 22, and Table 23 assemble various voltage supply and
current consumption ratings (General, Cat M1, Cat NB1/2, and GSM (EXS82-W only)).
For a more detailed description of the possible power saving modes and their configuration as
well as current consumption ratings for typical power saving scenarios please refer to [6].

1. If using the extended voltage range (see Section 2.1.2), i.e., down to 2.5V or up to 4.8V, the module
remains fully functional and safe while possibly no longer being fully compliant with 3GPP or other wire-
less standards. Please
note that the module is in this case switched on at a voltage of >2.65V.
