Classic Simple Stain Concentrate is an easy-to-use water-based stain
that enhances the aesthetic of many dierent types of surfaces.
Multiple colors can be used to create unique and beautiful results.
This advanced formula allows color to reach its full potential almost
immediately upon application. Color may be built up without the
worry of damaging the concrete like acid stain does. Classic Simple
Stain Concentrate is UV stable and has zero VOC. After applying the
rst coat, you only have to wait 20 - 30 minutes to apply the second
coat at 77°F. All colors may be used on interior and exterior surfaces in
a wide range of environments. Apply a Classic Coatings Systems
water-based sealer over the stain to protect the color and make it
more vibrant. New 4” concrete must cure for 28 days before the stain
can be applied.
SURFACE PREP: Before staining, remove all dirt, eorescence, and
oils from your surface by using Classic Organic Concrete Cleaner and
follow label instructions. If there is a sealer currently on your surface,
use Classic Paint & Sealer Remover and follow label instructions. If you
are using Classic Paint & Sealer Remover, you must use Classic
Organic Concrete Cleaner after. Concrete surface should feel as
smooth as 100-120 grit sandpaper before starting. If there is still
eorescence present, do not apply stain or sealer. Test the surface
with a dark cloth to determine the eectiveness of the cleaning
process. No dust or any other foreign particles should be visible.
Areas with visible foreign material need to be scrubbed and rinsed
again until the surface is free of any contaminants.
MIXING: We recommend mixing 1 quart of Classic Simple Stain
Concentrate with 4 quarts of distilled or deionized water. Do not use
hard water as it may adversely aect color and performance. Mix for
5 minutes with a drill and mixing paddle. When using more than 1
quart of the same color, we highly recommend mixing them together
in a clean 5-gallon pail for consistent color.
LIGHTER OPACTIY: To achieve a lighter color, mix 1 quart of Simple
Stain Concentrate with 5 quarts of distilled water. The dilution ratio
should not surpass 1 quart concentrate to 5 quarts water. As dilution
ratio increases, the amount of vehicle solids (adhesion) decreases,
resulting in a less durable stain.
DARKER OPACITY: Decreasing the dilution ratio of Classic Simple
Stain Concentrate to 1 quart stain to 3 parts water will increase
opacity. This allows the applicator to cover stains as well as achieve
uniformity on dierent integrally colored surfaces. This ratio will yield
approximately 150-225 sq. ft. depending on the surface and
application method.
APPLICATION: MIX VERY WELL BEFORE USING!
For best results,
apply the rst application using a pump-up sprayer in a circular
motion with a wand. You may also apply it with an airless sprayer or
other faux technique tools to achieve the desired look. Additional
coats can be applied after 20-30 minutes at 77°F. It’s also common to
use brushes for a sample only. Lighter colors should be applied rst by
“layering” colors. Apply Classic Simple Stain Concentrate in even
circular clockwise motions (do not allow it to puddle). Wait until the
rst application dries, then apply the second coat in even
counterclockwise motions. Always use very light applications.
Remember the more you apply, the darker the color becomes. When
using a pump or airless sprayer, shake or mix Classic Simple Stain
Concentrate every 5-6 minutes. Classic Simple Stain Concentrate can
be sealed after 4-6 hours with a Classic Coatings Systems water based
sealer. Do not allow Classic Simple Stain Concentrate to get wet before
sealing.
COLOR TIP: Apply lighter colors rst, allow to dry then highlight using
darker colors. It’s HIGHLY recommended that a on-site sample and
mock-up be made by the applicator. Representative test sections
must be presented to the owner for approval in writing to ensure that
applicators are familiar with the product and installation procedures.
COVERAGE: 1 quart of Classic Simple Stain Concentrate mixed with 4
quarts (1 gallon) of water and 2 light applications will yield
approximately 400-500 sq. ft. depending on surface and application.
