Line
The IP DSLAM (DSL Access Multiplexer) are carrier-class, high performance devices
deployed at the service provider CO (central office) side. They provide IP-based
broadband access services to ADSL subscribers CPE (consumer premise equipment)
in the multi-unit, multi-tenant buildings over the existed telephone line.
The IP DSLAM connect to the service provider’s public optical network (PON) through
their fiber interface. They cost-effectively deliver high-speed Internet access or voice/
video service through ADSL and Gigabit Ethernet fiber.
The IP DSLAM extend the broadband service to the end user where the distance from
central office may up to 5 km (for ADSL) or 6.1 km (for ADSL2+). Line performance
offers rates from 32Kbps to 3 Mbps (upstream), and from 32Kbps to 24Mbps
(downstream).
Two categories of IP DSLAM are available for selection. The low-profile rack-mount
IP DSLAM have fixed number of ports and are suitable for connection to smaller
apartment buildings. They are stackable, allowing ISP to easily add ports to meet their
subscriber expansion. The chassis-based IP DSLAM are tailored to meet telecom
carriers’ requirements for high-speed remote access and subscriber aggregation.
They can accommodate a large number of line cards and have high bandwidth
flexible backplane designs, combining a variety of technologies to meet various kinds
of market requirements.
