Troubleshooting Your System

CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform
troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or
telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your
warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the product.
Troubleshooting Power Supplies
CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform
troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or
telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your
warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the product.
1. Check the power supply LED status indicator pattern.
2. If power supply LED status indicator is not lit, it indicates a problem with either the power cable or power source.
To confirm if the problem exits with the power cable or power source:
a) Reseat both ends of the installed power cable.
b) Replace the existing power cable with a known working power cable.
c) Connect the power cable to a different power source.
3. If the power supply LED indicator is flashing amber, re-seat the power supply by removing and reinstalling it.
NOTE: After installing a power supply, allow several seconds for the system to recognize the power supply and to
determine if it is working properly.

Troubleshooting Cooling Fans

troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or
telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your
warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the product.
1. Remove the front bezel.
2. Open the cooling-fan access door.
3. Reseat the faulty fan.
4. If the fan functions properly, close the cooling-fan access door.
If the problem is not resolved, proceed with the next step.
5. Swap the faulty cooling fan with a working cooling fan from another slot.
6. If the fan functions properly, replace the faulty fan and close the cooling-fan access door.
