1 Introduction Thank you for purchasing the USB KVM Extender over Cat.5. This KVM extender allows you to extend the computer’s video and USB keyboard/mouse signal. Therefore, you now have a high quality and durability extension solution to control your system up to 200 meters away from your computer or KVM. With the built-in video and keyboard/mouse signal enhancement, you can gain the best video resolution quality. Additional software is not required.

2 Installation 2.1 System Requirements Console 1. VGA, SVGA, Multisync monitor capable of the highest resolution. 2. USB keyboard/mouse. Computer 1. VGA, SVGA or multisync card. 2. Type A USB port or PS/2 6 pin mini-DIN for keyboard and mouse. 3. Operating systems: Windows 98/98SE/2000/ME/XP/2003/Vista/7, Mac OS9/OSX, Linux Kernel 2.3 or later, Solaris 8 or later, Sun Micro OS. This switch must be pushed with a thin object like the end of a paper clip, or a ball point pen. Firmware download connector The min-USB female connector on the rear of the KVM switch is for a firmware upgrade function.

Connect your monitor, USB keyboard/mouse to the local unit, if you want to control your system at the local console. 3. Connect your monitor, USB keyboard/mouse to the remote unit, if you want to control your system at the remote console. 4. Connect the remote and local unit by using a CAT5/CAT5E/CAT6 cable; the supported maximum cable length is 200 meters.
3 Operations 3.1 Active Console Selection by Push Button You can press the push button on the local unit to change the active console of operation. There are three types of active console configurations: 1. Local Console Only You can operate the system only from the local unit. 2. Remote Console Only You can operate the system only from the remote unit. 3. Both Consoles You can operate the system from both the local and remote unit. The default configuration is “Both Consoles” mode.
Local Selected: Indicates that you can control your system from the local console only. Remote Selected: Indicates that you can control your system from the remote console only. Active Indicators (GREEN) Indicates the connection status: Local Indicator: Indicates whether the connection between the local unit and computer is ready or not. Remote Indicator: Indicates whether the connection between the local and remote unit is ready or not.
Both consoles are selected, local active is OFF, remote active is ON: It means that the CAT5 connection between the local and remote unit is ready, but the local unit is not connected to the PC correctly or the PC is not turned on. In this case, you cannot control your system from any console, because the PC is not available to control.
3.4 Sun Micro System Function Key Emulation: There are 16 special functions on the Sun Micro system keyboard, the KVM Switch can emulate these function keys. Here is the mapping table for Sun Micro function key emulation. To activate this emulation, you have to press the LEFT Window KEY first (this key usually is located between the left [Ctrl] and left [Alt]), then choice the second relative key.
