To keep your machine operating at peak efficiency, it is necessary to adjust it correctly and make regular inspections. The following pages will assist you in the operation and maintenance of your machine. Please read and understand this manual before operating your machine.

1 Section SAFETY The Owner/Operator’s manual uses this symbol to alert you of potential hazards. Whenever you see this symbol, read and obey the safety message that follows it. Failure to obey the safety message could result in personal injury, death or property damage. DANGER Indicates an imminently hazardous situation that, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury.
SAFETY 7. Do not operate this equipment in the vicinity of bystanders. Keep the area of operation clear of all persons, particularly small children. It is recommended that bystanders keep at least 50 feet (15 meters) away from the area of operation. 8. Do not allow children to operate this equipment. Allow only adults to operate the log splitter. No one under the age of 18 should be allowed to operate the log splitter. 9. Use only in daylight or good artificial light. 10.
SAFETY 21. When the ram of the log splitter is in the return mode, keep your hands off the machine—the log splitter is designed to automatically stop the ram when the cylinder is fully retracted. 1. Ensure the log splitter is locked in the horizontal position before towing. 22. Do not step across the log splitter while the engine is running. 2. Extend log splitter ram all the way before towing to help maintain stability (see picture below). 23.
SAFETY 1.7 SAFETY DECAL LOCATIONS Familiarize yourself with all of the safety and operational decals on the machine and the associated hazards. See the engine owner’s manual or contact the engine manufacturer for engine safety instructions and decals. Make certain that all safety and operating decals on this machine are kept clean and in good condition. 2 Section ASSEMBLY 2.1 FILLING HYDRAULIC FLUID LS27 Hydraulic Fluid Fill Location ATTENTION NOTE LOG SPLITTERS ARE NOT SHIPPED WITH HYDRAULIC FLUID IN THE SYSTEM. FILLING THE MACHINE WITH THE CORRECT AMOUNT OF HYDRAULIC FLUID IS NECESSARY BEFORE USE. AN IN-DEPTH SET OF ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS IS AVAILABLE AT THE END OF THIS MANUAL. Your log splitter will need to be filled with hydraulic fluid before in can be operated.
2.2 ATTACHING THE HITCH 3 5 8 6 7 5 3 1 9 2 4 10 1. Place coupler(8) on end of hitch pole(9), insert two 1/2 x 3" bolts(6) through the coupler holes and Secure with 1/2 centerlock nuts. 2. Position a safety chain(2) on each side of the hitch in the hole behind the coupler(8). Insert 3/8 x 3-1/4" bolt(7) with washers and nylock nuts through the top link of the safety chains and hole behind the coupler. 3. Attach lanyard(1) to jack stand with 1/4 x 3/4" bolt(4), washer, and nut.
3 Section FEATURES & CONTROLS 3.1 CONTROLS 1. Hitch safety chains: Safety chains are used during towing to prevent the machine from completely separating from the tow vehicle in the event the coupler detaches from the tow vehicle. Cross the safety chains under the hitch and connect to the towing vehicle. 2. Hitch jack: Always have in UP position and clear from the ground when machine is moving. When machine is in use, place in DOWN position on a level surface. 3.
FEATURES & CONTROLS 3.2 ENGINE CONTROLS NOTE FOR THE SPECIFIC STARTING, OPERATING AND SERVICE INFORMATION PERTAINING TO YOUR EXACT ENGINE MODEL, ALWAYS CONSULT THE ENGINE OWNER'S MANUAL FIRST. 1. Engine choke: Use when starting a cold engine. To use, push the lever to the left. Gradually turn off as the engine warms. Full choke may not be necessary when starting a warm engine. In this case, partial or no choke may work best. 2. Fuel cut-off switch: Push lever to the ON position to start and run engine.

Move the machine to a clear, level area outdoors before starting. Do not operate in the vicinity of bystanders. 4.1 FILL THE FUEL TANK 1.
OPERATION 4. Stand behind the splitting area on the control lever side of the log splitter. 4.4 OPERATING THE LOG SPLITTER WARNING Read and follow all safety instructions in this manual. Failure to operate the machine in accordance with the safety instructions MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY! WARNING Keep all body parts away from the splitting area while the splitting wedge is in motion. 1. Ensure the engine is running at full RPM before attempting to split wood. 5.
OPERATION Depending upon the type of wood being split, a log may not always break into two pieces and fall to the ground. If a log sticks to the wedge and starts to return with the wedge during reverse, stop the cylinder retraction and remove the wood. Care should be taken to prevent the wood piece from falling on parts of your body. 4.5 VERTICAL OPERATION The main beam of the log splitter can be flipped vertically to split wood. Perform the following steps for vertical operation: 1.
When splitting logs in the vertical position, stablize the log before engaging the control. Split as follows: 1. Place log on the end plate and turn until it leans against the beam and is stable. 2. When splitting extra large or uneven logs, the log must be stablized with wooden shims or split wood between the log and end plate or ground. 4.6 STORAGE MODE The log splitter can be adjusted for storing in tight spaces. Perform the following steps to transform the machine into storage mode: 1.

SERVICE & MAINTENANCE WARNING BEFORE INSPECTING OR SERVICING ANY PART OF THIS MACHINE, SHUT OFF POWER SOURCE, AND MAKE SURE ALL MOVING PARTS HAVE COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. 5.3 FILLING HYDRAULIC FLUID The hydraulic tank is located in the back of the machine. Check the fluid level with the dipstick before each use. Check the fluid on level ground with the jack stand in the down position. The hydraulic pump requires premium hydraulic fluids containing high quality rust, oxidation, and foam inhibitors.
6 Section TROUBLESHOOTING Before performing any of the corrections in this troubleshooting chart, refer to the appropriate information contained in this manual for the correct safety precautions and operating or maintenance procedures. Contact your dealer or the factory for service problems with the machine. POSSIBLE CAUSES REMEDY Improper control settings. Use proper settings. Lack of fuel. Fill fuel tank. Spark plug disconnected. LS21 LS27 Assembly instructions Log splitter ASSEMBLY
1. Crate with log splitter should arrive undamaged and look as shown at right. Fig. 1 Log Splitter new in crate 2. Remove plastic shrink wrap Fig 2. Plastic removal 3. Use a hammer to disassemble the side and top of shipping crate Fig.

6. Remove bolt securing hitch pole to pallet. Fig. 6 Hitch pole removal 7. Remove second bolt securing hitch pole to pallet and remove the hitch pole Fig. 7 Hitch pole removal 8. Remove top bolt of plate securing machine at hitch pole installation location Fig.
9. Remove bottom bolts of the same plate. Remove plate and discard Fig. 9 Shipping plate removal 10. Place hitch pole into installation location on frame. Place 3/8 x 3" bolt into front hole location and secure using 3/8" lock nut. Fig. 10 Hitch pole installation at machine end 11. Insert copper colored hitch pin into other hole location and insert cotter pin to secure Fig.
12. Attach jack stand to the hitch pole at the 4th hole location from end of hitch pole. Secure to hitch pole with 3/8 x 3" bolt and lock nut. Insert hitch pin into the flange hole of the jack stand and secure with cotter pin. Fig. 12 Jack stand 13. Attach nylon lanyard to the hitch pin as shown at right and secure the other end to the jack stand with 1/4 x 3/4" bolt, washer and nut. Fig. 13 Jack stand hitch pin and lanyard 14.
15. Attach coupler to hitch pole at the two remaining larger holes at the end of the hitch pole. Secure using two 1/2 x 3" bolts and nylock nuts as shown in Fig. 15. Fig. 15 Coupler installed 16. 18. Lift beam and cylinder assembly into horizontal position and lock into place. It is recommended that two people be involved in this process. Fig. 18 Two people to position beam to horizontal 19. Remove large nylon strap securing cylinder end against wood block used for shipping purposes. Fig.

Secure the cylinder cradle back into position as shown in Fig 25 and secure into place using the two 5/16 x 1" bolts removed earlier along with four other 5/16 x 1" bolts from the Owner's kit. 31. With the assistance of another person, the log splitter can now be rolled off of the shipping pallet. Fig. 27 Remove splitter from shipping pallet Fig. 28 Remove splitter from shipping pallet 32. If storing in a confined area, the beam can now be put back into the vertical position. Fig.
33. Release the spring loaded locking pin under the beam to move into vertical position. Make sure the log splitter is either attached to towing vehicle or someone is holding the hitch against the ground. Fig. 30 Secure machine before lifting beam to vertical 34.
