3 Function and application
The electric linear module type ELGL-... is a handling axis with air-cushion bear-
ing guide and integrated linear motor. The driving components and the air
cushion bearing form one unit, the slide. The slide moves on the stator rail. A
separate displacement encoder supplies signals to the controller.
The displacement encoder, controller and motor operate in a closed-loop con-
trol circuit. This enables the motor to regulate to specified set values for speed
and position within the permitted stroke range with a high degree of accuracy.
The electric linear module ELGL has been designed to be used in conjunction
with the controller for handling tasks which require a high degree of position-
ing accuracy, dynamics and constant availability. The linear module ELGL-... is
not intended for manufacturing processes which are sensitive to copper or
PTFE.
Typical areas of application:
Automation technology, xyz handling tasks, assembly and testing systems
Pick & Place, dispensing
Machines for electronics manufacturing, circuit board measuring or drilling
machines
Gantry systems for precision machining, e.g. lasers or other high-speed
processes
Packing machines, automatic screwdrivers
Applications in the textile and food industries
4 Transport and storage
Caution
Improper storage, e.g. caused by temperatures that are either too low or too
high, can negatively affect the properties of the linear axis (e.g. the flatness
tolerances).
Store the linear axis such that the flatness tolerances are not negatively af-
fected. Never store the linear axis on clevis foot mountings with a support
span greater than 500 mm.
Otherwise, the dead weight of the linear axis can cause plastic deformation as
a result of deflections.
