H: Depth
DR: Dead Reckoning Function
Drift: The cumulative effect of wind and current on the vessel.
DSC: means Digital Selective Calling, targets can be used to send ditress calling signal

EBL: means Electronic Bearing Line: This is a bearing line from the center of your GPS position that
remains constant as its position moves. You use the EBL to measure the accurate bearing from
your GPS’s position to a target.
ECDIS: Electronic Chart Display and Information System
ECS: Electronic Chart System
EGNOS: European Geo-Stationary Navigational Overlay System
Elevation: the vertical distance of a point above or below a reference surface, such as sea level.
ENC: Electronic Navigational Chart
Ephemerides: Data giving the location of satellites for each day of the year or for other regular intervals.
ETA: Estimation Time Arrival
ETD: Estimated Time of Departure

F-Band: F - Band (applies to Radar)
Fishing: The Fishing Charts shows detailed bathymetric contour line developed from National Ocean
Service surveys (NOAA-NOS). These Fishing Charts cover the main canyons and are rendered in
stunning detail. The Fishing Charts are NOT to be used for navigation.
FIX: Fix
FLS: The Forward Looking Sounder is a system that displays on screen a scanning illustration of
underwater objects such as fish or seabed.

GFS: The GFS model is a generic, worldwide model covering land as well as sea areas. This is the most
common of the models, and the one other software suppliers make available.
GIF: Graphics Interchange Format. This is a format for saving graphics files with data compression.
GLL: A data sentence that is part of the NMEA protocol for transferring information between electronic
devices. The GLL sentence contains position information.
GPS: Global Positioning System - a global navigation system that is based on triangulation from a
constellation of 24 satellites orbiting the earth. A GPS receiver pinpoints its position on earth by
measuring its distance from the satellites. It does so by calculating the time it takes for a coded
radio message to pass from the satellite to the GPS unit. A GPS unit needs at least three
measurements to determine its exact position.
GRIB: GRIB file is a WMO (World Meteorological Organisation) standard format for archivingandexchanging
gridded data
Gulf Stream model: is a weather model which adds current information to the East Coast High Resolution
model.

Hardware key: This key, connected to the parallel port or to the USB one, allows the use of the software
(starter key).It also provides the opportunity of using a given configuration on a second computer
without previous activation: it acts as a mobile license / configuration.
