Charging the Battery 1. Place the battery into the charger as shown. 2. Plug the one end of the connecting cable (plug adapter) into the charger base. Leave the battery charging until the charger light turns green. (To maximize battery life, the first charge should be at least 4 hours) 3. Plug the other end of the connecting cable into a wall outlet. The charger is for indoor use only.
Insert the Battery and SD/SDHC Card (Not included) 1. Open the battery compartment. 2. Insert the battery while observing the correct polarity. Use the side of battery to press down the stopper as shown, allowing the battery to lock into place properly.
3. Insert an SD/SDHC card (not included) into the memory card slot as shown. 12 4. Close the battery compartment.
Optional SD/SDHC cards are not included. The use of 64 MB to 32 GB memory cards from recognized manufacturers such as SanDisk, Panasonic and Toshiba are recommended for reliable data storage. To remove the SD/SDHC card, open the battery compartment and gently push the card to release it. Pull the card out carefully. Turning On and Off Press the Power button to turn the camera on. To turn off the camera, press the Power button again.
Using the Mode Button The GE camera provides a convenient Mode Button that allows you to switch between different modes easily. After pressing the button to confirm your mode button to enter mode selection menu, press the Left/Right button to choose the mode, press the selection. All the available modes are listed as follows: Mode Name Icon The camera sets all the settings automatically. Auto mode Manual mode 14 Description M Many of the camera settings can be configured manually in this mode.
Setting Language and Date/Time The Date/Time and Language setup page will automatically appear when the camera is turned on the first time. To set the display language and date/time, go to the following setup options in the General Setup menu. • Language • Date/Time To access the General Setup menu, do the following: 1. Press the Power button to turn the camera on. 2. Press the button, then switch among camera settings menus with the Left/Right button and select the General Setup menu.
Setting the Date and Time 1. Select date/time with Up/Down button, then press the or right button to enter the date/time settings options. 2. Use the Left/Right button to select the date or time field, then press the Up/Down buttons to adjust the values. 3. Press the 16 button to confirm the setting.
About the LCD Screen When you turn the camera on, various icons are shown on the LCD screen to indicate the current camera settings and status. To learn more about the displayed icons, see “LCD Screen display” on page 25. LCD Screen notes: Extremely high-precision technology has been used to manufacture the LCD screen so that most of the pixels are operational for use. However, there may be some minute points (black, white, red, blue or green) that constantly appear on the LCD screen.
BASIC OPERATION Using the Zoom Function Shooting in Auto Mode Auto mode is the easiest mode to take photos. While operating in this mode, the camera automatically optimizes your photos for best results. To start shooting, do the following: 1. Press the Power button to turn the camera on. 2. In the Mode menu, select the Auto mode ( There are two built-in zoom functions: optical zoom and digital zoom. When taking photos, you can zoom in or out on an object using the zoom wheel. W T ). 3.
Basic Functions Menu The Basic Function Menus of the camera include Flash, Selftimer, Macro Capture, and Exposure Compensation. Set the basic functions as per the following steps: 1. Pull up the Basic Function Menus by pressing the Right/ Flash button. 4. After pressing Left/Right button to select the options button to confirm the which need to be set, press the setting and quit the screen. Flash 2.
• • • • Flash: Forced flash The flash will fire with every shot. Flash: Forced off Flash is turned off. Flash: Slow Synchro This allows you to take pictures of people at night that clearly show the subject. The shutter is held open longer to allow more light to the image sensor. Flash: Red-Eye+Slow Synchro Using this mode for slow synchro shots with red-eye reduction. Macro Mode • Macro: On Select this to focus on subjects 5cm from the lens. • Macro: Off Select this option to disable Macro mode.
Advanced Functions Menu The Advanced Functions Menu of the camera include Image Size, Image Quality, White Balance, Image Color and ISO. Set the advanced functions as follows. 1. Pull up the Advanced Function Menu by pressing the button. 4. Use the Left/Right buttons to change the settings then to confirm the new settings and close the press the Advanced Function Menu. 2.
WB (White Balance) ISO The White Balance allows you to adjust the color temperature under different lighting conditions. (The WB setting is only available when the camera is in the M Manual mode). The ISO function allows you to set the sensitivity of the camera's sensor to light. To improve the performance in darker environments, a higher ISO value is required. On the other hand, a lower ISO value is needed when in bright conditions.
Quality Size The quality setting determines how much the camera compresses the photo files. The higher the compression, the smaller the file size will be, but the quality will decrease. The lower the compression, the larger the file size, but the better the quality. The size setting refers to the image resolution in pixels. A higher image resolution allows you to print that image in larger sizes without degrading the image quality.
Color The color setting option allows you to add artistic effects when taking pictures. You can try different color tones to alter the mood of your pictures. (The Color option is only available when the camera is in the M Manual mode).

Auto Scene Mode (ASCN) In the "ASCN" mode, different conditions are detected intelligently and the most suitable settings will be automatically selected. 2. Hold the camera steadily and aim at the subject. The optimum scene mode will be identified automatically. To use "ASCN": 4. Press the Shutter button all the way down to take the picture. 1.
Night Portrait Panorama Mode allows you to create a panoramic picture by stitching together several pictures. Backlit Portrait Follow these steps to create a panoramic picture: When the sun or any other light source is behind you, ASCN will automatically adjust the foreground exposure to produce good pictures. 1. Press the Mode button, use the Left/Right button to select Panorama mode, then press the button to confirm the setting.
Manual Scene Mode (SCN) In Manual Scene mode, you can select from a total of 20 scene types to match your needs. You just need to select the right scene for the occasion and the camera will automatically adjust to the optimal settings for you. 4. After taking 8 frames, the camera will stitch the images together automatically. Press the Playback button to view the final image.

Blink Detection Blink Detection is enabled by default unless disabled by the user. When shooting, if a face is detected its eyes closed, the Blink Detection will appear on the screen to show that a blink was detected. 1. Face Detection The Face Detection mode will detect and enhance facial features. 1. Smile Detection With the "Smile Detection" feature, the camera automatically detects and captures a person smiling. 1. In Shooting Mode, press the Left/Face Detection button to enable Smile Detection and the ( ) will appear on the LCD. 2. Point the camera at the subject until the subject's face is detected and bracketed by a white frame. Press the Shutter button completely and then release it. The camera will now 'wait' for the subject to smile 3.
PLAYBACK Viewing Photos and Videos To view the captured photos and video clips on the LCD screen: 1. Press the button to enter the Playback mode. The last recorded photo or video clip will appear. 2. Use the Left/Right navigation buttons to scroll through the photos or video clips stored in the internal memory or memory card. 3. Using the Delete Button In Playback Mode, you can press the Down/Delete button to delete pictures or videos. To delete pictures or videos: 1. Press the button to enter the Playback Mode. 2. Select a picture or video clip you want to delete with the Left/Right button. 3. Press the Down/Delete button and the delete screen will appear. 4. Select Yes or Back with the Up/Down button and press the button for confirmation. Erased photos/video clips cannot be recovered.
USING THE MENUS Still Menu Mode: M In any of the above Still Picture Modes, press the to go to the Still Picture menu. button To adjust each setting: 1. AF Mode (Auto-Focus mode) AF-assist Beam Use this setting to control the auto-focus mechanism while taking pictures. This option can turn on or turn off the AF assist lamp. The AF assist lamp assists the camera in focusing correctly in low light conditions. It is not recommended that this be turned off or the camera may not focus correctly. Two options are available: • Single-AF: The focus frame appears on the center of the LCD screen to focus on the subject.
Continuous AF Expo Metering (Exposure Metering) The camera continuously focuses on a moving subject such as a sports player. This setting determines what part of the picture the camera uses to determine the correct exposure for the whole picture.
Continuous Shot Use this setting to perform continuous shooting. After entering this mode, you can shoot multiple images by by pressing and holding down the shutter button. • Time Lapse: Automatically capture pictures at predefined intervals. The flash is designed not to work in this mode in order to enable quick succession of shots. Date Imprint Include a Date/Time stamp in the photo image. There are three options available: There are five available options: • OFF: Turn off the Continuous Shot function.
Quick Review Digital Zoom This setting refers to the quick photo review immediately after taking a picture. The picture stays on the LCD screen for an adjustable period of time. Use this setting to enable or disable the digital zoom function. When disabled, only the optical zoom is enabled.
Slow Shutter In Slow shutter mode, the shutter will remain open as long as the Shutter button is held down. This gives you control over the duration of the exposure. (The slow shutter mode is available only in M manual mode). • Manual : To set a long exposure time between 2~30 sec. The use of tripod is recommended for prolonged exposure times.
Movie Menu Mode: In the Movie Mode, press the Setup menu. button to access the Movie To configure each setting: 1. In the Menu screen, switch between the Movie Setup or different Camera Setup pages using the Left/Right button, select the page with the function you want to adjust and press the Down button. 3. Playback Menu Protect Mode : In Playback mode, press the back menu. button to enter the Play- Please refer to the following sections for detailed instructions on the various menu options. 50 To prevent pictures or videos from being accidentally erased, use this setting to lock one or all of the files. To protect/unprotect a picture or video: 1. Use the Up/Down arrow button and select Protect. then press the or Right button to enter the submenu.
2. Use the Up/Down button and select "One" to protect individual photos or movies; or select "All" to protect all photos and movies stored in the memory card. Trim HDR-High Dynamic Range The Trim setting allows you to trim an area of a selected photo and save it as a new photo. With the HDR function, pictures that are overexposed may be corrected by optimizing the highlights and lowlights captured to more accurately represent the actual scene. To trim a picture: 1. Select the Trim setting from the menu. 2. Using the Left/Right buttons, locate the photo that you want to trim and have it displayed on the LCD. 3.
Resize Rotate This setting allows you to resize a picture to a specified resolution, and saves it as a new picture. You can use this setting to change the picture orientation of the picture. 1. Select the Resize setting from the Playback menu as described previously. 1. Select the Rotate setting from the Playback menu as described previously. 2. Use the Left/Right navigation buttons to select a picture to rotate. 3.
Red-eye Reduction Use this setting to remove red eye in your photos. Display Setup 1. Select the Red-eye Reduction in the Playback menu as described previously. Mode: 2. Use the Left/Right button to select the picture from which red eye needs to be removed. Press menu. 3. Use the Up/Down navigation buttons and select Yes to fix the selected image or Back to cancel and return to the Playback menu. 4. Press the button to confirm the setting.
Slideshow Wallpaper Settings This setting allows you to view all the stored pictures as a slideshow. Use this setting to use your favorite picture to use as a background on the LCD screen. 1. Select Slide Show menu, then press the to enter the slide show setup interface. or Right button 1. Press the Down button to select the Wallpaper Setting menu. 2. Setup Menu Mode : M The Setup menu for the camera is available in all modes. Each menu page can be selected by pressing the button and switching between menus with the Left/Right button. 2. Switch between different functions with the Up/Down button. 3. Press the or Right button to enter the submenu. After selecting a function option, you can press the Up button to return to the menu for other Camera Setup pages. Or you can press the Down button to switch to the next menu page.
Beep LCD Brightness Use this setting to adjust beep volume, shutter button, self timer, power on, and power off tones. Use this setting to adjust the brightness of your LCD screen. To change these settings: 1. Select the Beep setting from the Setup menu as described previously. 2. Use the Up/Down navigation buttons to switch between volume, shutter tone, key tone, self-timer tone, and power tone options. 3.
Power Saver This setting allows you to save power and get the maximum possible running time for your battery. Follow the steps below to turn off the LCD screen and camera automatically after a period of inactivity. 1. Select the Power Save setting from the Setup menu as described previously. 2. File and Software Format Memory Please note: formatting enables you to delete all contents in the memory card and built-in memory, including protected photo and movie files. To use this setting: 1. Select Format Memory in the File and Software menu. 2. Use the Up/Down navigation buttons to select Yes or No. button to confirm. File Numbering After you take a picture or video clip,the camera will save it in a sequential number. You can use this to reset the file numbering to 1. (When more than 999 images are on the memory card, the use of this features will have no effect). 1. Select the File Name in File and Software menu. 2. Select the option with the Up/Down button and press the button for confirmation.
Reset Settings FW Version (Firmware Version) Use this setting to restore the camera to its default settings. Use this setting to view the camera's firmware version. 1. Select Reset Settings in the File and Software menu. 1. Select the FW Version in the File and Software menu. 2. Use the Up/Down navigation buttons to select Yes or No. Then press the button to confirm. 2. If you have uploaded the latest firmware version to your SD card, upgrade accordingly as necessary.
Transmission Video System Use this setting to configure your video system to your current area. 1. Select the Video System in the Connection Setup menu. 2. Use the Up/Down navigation buttons to select NTSC or button to confirm. PAL. Then press the The video output signal can be switched to NTSC or PAL to accommodate different regional standards. The appropriate setting will vary between regions. NTSC: USA, Canada, Taiwan, Japan, etc. PAL: Europe, Asia (excluding Taiwan), Oceania, etc.
Connect Your Camera to an HDMI TV to View Videos HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface), is a fully digital audio/video transmission interface, through which uncompressed audio and video signals are transmitted. Connecting the camera to an HDMI TV Direct transmission of digital video signals to your TV reduces conversion loss and improves image quality. 2. The camera will automatically determine if the connected display supports 1080i resolution.
Connecting to a PC Use the USB cable supplied with your camera to copy (transfer) pictures to a computer. Setting the USB Mode Since the camera’s USB port can be set to connect with either a PC or a Printer, the following steps will ensure that the camera is correctly configured to connect with a PC. The USB mode is set to PC by default. 1. Enter the camera setup menu and select USB Mode with the Up/Down button, then press the or Right button to enter. 2. Use the Up/Down navigation buttons and select PC.
Windows operating system (Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7.) Click the [Safely remove the hardware] icon and remove the USB connector according to the displayed menu. 4. Disconnect the camera once the transfer is completed. If the USB option is set to [PC] : Turn the camera off and disconnect the USB cable. If the USB option is set to [PC (PTP) ] : Remove the camera from the system as described below before turning the camera off and disconnecting the USB cable.
Connecting to a PictBridge Compatible Printer PictBridge allows printing images from a memory card in a digital camera directly to a printer, regardless of brand. To find out if a printer is PictBridge compatible, simply look for the PictBridge logo on the packaging or check the printer manual. With the PictBridge function on your camera, you can print the captured photos directly with a PictBridge compatible printer using the supplied USB cable, without the need for a PC. 3.
Connecting the Camera and Printer. 1. Make sure both the camera and printer are turned on. If the camera is not connected to a PictBridge compatible printer, the following error message will appear on the LCD screen. 2. Connect one end of the supplied USB cable to the USB port on your camera. 3. Connect the other end of the cable to the USB port on the printer.
Using the PictBridge Menu After setting the USB mode to Printer, the PictBridge menu will appear: Print with Date If you have set the date and time of your camera, the date and time will be recorded and saved with each photo you take. 1. Select Print with date from the PictBridge menu. The following screen will appear: Press the Up/Down button to select a menu item, then Press the or Right button to enter this item. Refer to the following sections for more detailed information on each setting. 2.
