Operation
Section 3: Operation
Operation and Use Questions

concerns about unit operation and maintenance.
Controls and Symbols
See Figure 3-1. The control panel uses icons to repre-
sent settings. Be familiar with icon meanings prior to unit
operation.

Before Starting Engine
IMPORTANT NOTE: Oil must be added before starting the
engine for the first time. Units are shipped without oil.
1. Check engine oil level.
2. Check fuel level.
3. See Figure 3-2. Verify fuel shut-off valve (A)
located under the fuel tank is open.

Starting Unit
1. See Figure 3-3. Set wheel speed lever (A) to
NEUTRAL.

NOTE: The wheel speed lever must be in NUETRAL and
blade control knob (B) pushed down to the BLADE DIS-
ENGAGE position for the engine to start.
2. See Figure 3-4. Verify neutral safety switch (C) at
the rear of the transaxle is connected.

Hot Surfaces. When operating machine, do not
touch hot surfaces. Keep machine away from
combustibles during use. Hot surfaces could
result in severe burns or fire.

Personal injury. Disengage mower blades when crossing
roadways or walkways. Engage mower blades on grass or
brush only. Failure to do so could result in death, serious
injury, property damage, or equipment damage.

Projectile risk. Remove all debris from work area
before operating unit. Failure to do so could result in
death, serious injury, or property or equipment
damage.
WARNING
Accidental startup. Before clearing debris from mower
deck, shut engine OFF and allow to cool. Disconnect
spark plug wire. Failure to do so could result in death
or serious injury.
