SAFETY DATA SHEET
Highly flammable: Will be easily ignited by heat,
sparks or flames
Vapors may travel to source of ignition and flashback
Most vapors are heavier than air. They will spread
along ground and collect in low or confined areas
(sewers, basements, tanks)
Self-contained breathing apparatus and full
protective clothing must be worn in case of
fire.
Fire-fighting Equipment/Instructions:
Fire involving tanks
or car/trailer loads
o Fight fire from a distance or use unmanned hose holders or monitor nozzles.
o Cool containers with flooding quantities of water until well after fire goes out
o Withdraw immediately in case of rising sound from venting safety devices or
discoloration of tank.
o ALWAYS stay away from tanks engulfed in fire.
o For massive fire, do not use unmanned hose holders or monitor nozzles; if it is possible,
withdraw from area and let fire burn.
Large Fire
o Do not use straight streams.
o Move containers from fire area if you can do it without risk.
o Dike fire-control water for later disposal.
6. Accidental Release Measures
Personal
Precautions and
Protections
o Keep unnecessary personnel away. For personnel protection see Section 8 of the SDS.
o All equipment used to handle the product must be grounded.
o Do not touch or walk through spilled material.
Environmental
Precautions
o Avoid discharge into drains, water courses or onto the ground.
o Eliminate all ignition sources (no smoking, sparks or flames in immediate areas).
o A vapor suppressing foam may be used to reduce vapors.
o Prevent dust cloud.
Methods of
Containment
and Cleaning Up
o Large spills: Stop the flow of material, if this is without risk. Dike the spilled area where
possible. Absorb in dry earth, sand or other noncombustible material and place in
containers. Use clean non-sparking tools to collect absorbed materials.
o Small spills: With clean shovel place material into a clean dry container and cover
loosely; move containers from spill area.
