Warnings Warnings The following warnings are for the setup, use, grounding, maintenance, and repair of this equipment. The exclamation point symbol alerts you to a general warning and the hazard symbol refers to procedure-specific risk. Refer back to these warnings. Additional, product-specific warnings may be found throughout the body of this manual where applicable. WARNING FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD Flammable fumes, such as solvent and paint fumes, in work area can ignite or explode.
Warnings WARNING MOVING PARTS HAZARD Moving parts can pinch or amputate fingers and other body parts. • Keep clear of moving parts. • Do not operate equipment with protective guards or covers removed. • Pressurized equipment can start without warning. Before checking, moving, or servicing equipment, follow the Pressure Relief Procedure in this manual. Disconnect power or air supply.
Installation Installation The Graco warranty will not apply if cleaning solutions other than those recommended by Graco are used in these units. Only use solutions that are not harmful to the wetted parts. See the Technical Data in the displacement pump manuals 311825, 311827, and 312745. See FIG. 1. Connect the suction hose (P) between the pump fluid inlet and the suction tube (R), using thread sealant on the male threads. Screw on the suction tube strainer.

Installation Grounding Air and fluid hoses: use only electrically conductive hoses. Air compressor: follow manufacturer’s recommendations. Although water generally provides a natural electrical ground, the following equipment must be grounded if the cleaning chemicals are volatile. The equipment must be grounded. Grounding reduces the risk of static and electric shock by providing an escape wire for the electrical current due to static build up or in the event of a short circuit.
Operation Operation Pressure Relief Procedure Trapped air can cause the pump to cycle unexpectedly, which could result in serious injury from splashing or moving parts. Cleaning Solutions Prepare the cleaning solution according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Be sure to observe all warnings. If you are using powdered cleaners, mix them thoroughly in a separate pail before adding them to a supply drum. Undissolved powders are extremely abrasive and may damage pump parts. 1. Engage the trigger lock.
Operation Starting the Pump • The piston and intake check valves of displacement pump 247599 are factory-set for light viscosity fluids. This setting minimizes surging at pump stroke changeover. To adjust the valves for heavier viscosity fluids, see manual 312745. • Always stop the pump at the bottom of its stroke to prevent fluid from drying on the rod and damaging the throat packings. When you finish pumping, always relieve the pressure, page 9.
Operation 312585E 11
Troubleshooting Troubleshooting 1. Relieve the pressure, page 9. 2. Check all possible causes and problems before disassembling the pump. Problem Pump fails to operate. Cause Solution Restricted line or inadequate air supply; closed or clogged valves. Clear; increase air supply. Check that valves are open. Obstructed fluid hose or gun/valve; fluid hose ID is too small. Open, clear*; use hose with larger ID. Fluid dried on displacement rod.
Repair Repair Disconnect the Displacement Pump Reconnect the Displacement Pump See the Parts drawings on pages 14-17. See the Parts drawings on pages 14-17. 1. Screw the connecting rod adapter (11) to the air motor shaft. 1. Flush the pump, if possible. Stop the pump at the bottom of its stroke. Relieve the pressure, page 9. 2. Disconnect the air, fluid, and suction hoses. Do not lift the pump by the lift ring when the total weight exceeds 250 kg (550 lb).
