INTENDED USE
The surge voltage tester allows isolation and contact points to be checked with a pre-selected
voltage. In addition it is possible to measure the isolation resistance and perform a high-
voltage connection test.
The device should be connected to and operated with an earthed socket (safety socket) of
the public AC power supply only.
Do not measure in damp rooms or outdoors, nor under adverse environmental conditions.
Unfavourable ambient conditions are:
- Wetness or high humidity,
- Dust and combustible gases, vapours or solvents,
- Thunderstorms or similar conditions such as strong electrostatic elds, etc.
Any use other than that described above may damage the product. Moreover, this may give
rise to hazards such as short-circuiting, re, electric shock, etc. No part of the product may be
modied or rebuilt, and the housing must not be opened.
Always observe the safety notes included in these operating instructions.
This quick guide explains the safety measures that should be taken to make working with
the device as safe as possible. The individual functions of the device are described in more
detail in the enclosed operating manual in English. It can be found in the main directory of the
enclosed CD or a printed version is enclosed.
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS AND HAZARD WARNINGS
Please read all the instructions before using this device; they contain
important information on its correct operation.
The warranty will be void in the event of damage caused by failure to observe these safety
instructions! We do not assume any liability for any consequential damage!
We shall not accept liability for damage to property or personal injury caused by incorrect
handling or non-compliance with the safety instructions! Any warranty will be void in such
cases.
The unauthorised conversion and/or modication of the product is not allowed for safety and
approval reasons (CE).
The design of the product complies with the safety class 1. Use only a grounded mains
socket (100 - 240 V~) of the public power supply to power the unit.
Measuring devices and devices connected to the power supply should be kept out of reach of
children. Therefore, be especially careful when children are around.
Always rst connect the measuring cable to the product. At the end of the test disconnect the
measuring cable from the product last.
Be especially careful when dealing with voltages higher than 50 V AC or 75 V DC! Even at
such voltages you can receive a life-threatening electric shock if you come into contact with
live electric wires.
Check the measuring device and its measuring leads for any damage before each
measurement. Never make any measurements if the protecting insulation is defective (torn,
missing etc.).
To avoid electric shock, do not to touch the connections/measuring points directly or indirectly
during measurements.
Never reach beyond the grip surface of the probes during a measurement process. There is a
risk of a fatal electric shock.
Do not use the device shortly before, during or after a thunderstorm (lightning! high-energy
surges!). Please make sure that your hands, shoes, clothing, the oor, the measuring
instrument and the measuring cables, switches and switching parts, etc., are absolutely dry.
Do not use the device in rooms or under unfavourable ambient conditions in which there may
or could be combustible gases, vapours or dust.
Do not use near:
- Strong magnetic or electromagnetic elds
- Transmitting antennas or HF generators.
- These can affect the measurement.
Only use measuring lines or measuring accessories which have been adapted to the
specications of the product.
If a safe operation can no longer be assumed, the device has to be put out of operation and
secured against unintended operation. Safe operation can no longer be assumed, if:
- the device is visibly damaged,
- the device does not function any longer and
- the device was stored under unfavourable conditions for a long period of time or
- Following considerable stress during transportation.
Never switch the device on immediately after having taken it from a cold to a warm
environment. The condensation that forms might destroy your device. Allow the device to
reach room temperature before switching it on.
Never dismantle the product! There is a risk of a fatal electric shock!
Do not carelessly leave the packaging material lying around, since it could become a
dangerous plaything for children.
The device is only intended for dry interior rooms (not bathrooms or similar damp rooms). The
device must not get wet or damp. There is a risk of a fatal electric shock!
On industrial sites, the accident prevention regulations of the association of the industrial
workers’ society for electrical equipment and utilities must be followed.
Measurement instruments used at schools, training facilities, do-it-yourself and hobby
workshops should not be handled unless supervised by trained, responsible personnel.
If you have doubts about how the equipment should be operated or how to connect it safely,
consult a trained technician.
Handle the product with care. It can be damaged through impact, blows, or accidental drops,
even from a low height.
Please also note the enclosed detailed operating instructions.
This device left the manufacturer’s factory in a safe and perfect condition. To maintain this
condition and ensure hazard-free operation, the user must observe the safety guidelines and
warnings contained in these instructions. Please pay attention to the following symbols:
A triangle containing an exclamation mark indicates important information in
these operating instructions, which is to be observed without fail.
A lightning symbol in a triangle warns against an electric shock or impairment of
the electrical safety of the device.
The “arrow” symbol indicates where special tips and notes on operation are
provided.
This product is CE-compliant and therefore meets the necessary European
guidelines.
Surge category I for measurements on signal and control voltages without
powerful discharges.
Surge category II for measurements on electric devices connected to the mains
supply by a power plug. This category also covers all smaller categories (e.g.
CAT I for measuring signal and control voltages).
Protective conductor, safety class 1. This screw/connector must not be
loosened.
Earth potential
Reference earth chassis
Regularly check the technical safety of the device and the measuring lines, e.g.
for damage of the housing or crushing, etc.
Never operate the device when it is open. !DANGER TO LIFE!
Never exceed the maximum admissible input values. Never touch circuits or
parts of circuits with voltages greater than 50 V/ACrms or 75 V/DC! Danger to
life!
UNPACKING
Check all the parts for completeness and damage after unpacking.
Damaged parts must not be used for safety reasons. In case of any damage,
contact our customer service.
