Operation Manual

SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
1. It is vital to know how to stop the generating set quickly and to know how to use all
the controls. Never allow anyone not familiar with the instructions to use the
generating set.
2. Do not allow children under fourteen years of age or animals to approach the
generating set when it is in operation.
3. Before starting the generating set, always carry out pre-operational checks in order
to avoid accidents or damage to the equipment.
4. Site the generating set at least 1 metre from buildings or other equipment when it is
in use.
5. Do not run the engine in closed premises. The exhaust gas contains toxic
substances that could be fatal. Make sure that the premises are well ventilated.
When the generator is installed in a ventilated room, additional requirements for fire
and explosion protection shall be observed.
6. The generating set must operate on a horizontal surface. Fuel may be spilt when the
generating set is tilted.
7. Diesel fuel is inflammable under certain conditions. Keep the fuel in containers
specially intended for this purpose. Do not store Diesel fuel or the machine
containing Diesel fuel inpremises where there is arisk. Do not smoke whenhandling
fuel or bring naked flames near the generating set. Fill up in a well ventilated place.
Never open the fuel tank while the engine is running or still hot. If the Diesel fuel is
spilt on the floor, clean the floor well and move the machine away before starting the
engine. Avoid any repetitive or prolonged contact with the skin and do not inhale the
fumes.
8. Do not touch rotating parts or the muffler while the generating set is running. The
muffler remains hot after the engine is stopped.
Some parts of the internal combustion engine are hot may cause burns. Pay
attention to the warnings on the generating set.
9. Use Diesel fuel for a Diesel engine. Never use petrol or other fuels.
10. A generating set can cause electrocution when not used correctly; do not handle it
with wet hands. Do not get the generating set wet or use it in the rain or snow.
11. If the generating set is to be connected to the mains network of a building to provide
a back-up electricity supply, this should always be carried out by a qualified
electrician in accordance with all laws and regulations in force for electrical
installations. An incorrect connection can cause reverse electric current from the
generating set to flow through the public supply, resulting in the electrocution of
anyone working on the mains network. Moreover, the generating set could explode,
catch fire, or cause a fire to start in the wiring of the building once the mains supply
has been re-established.
Electrical equipment (including lines and plug connections) should not be defective.
12. Instructions for use relating to the safety of persons are given in the chapter entitled
“GENERATING SET USE” in this manual. It is essential to refertothoseinstructions.
