Operating tips and information
Reser ving adequate free space
To ensure efcient storage system operation, a certain amount of unallocated capacity, or free space,
should be reserved in each disk group. The recommended amount of free space is inuenced by your
system conguration. For g uidance on how much free space to reserve, refer to the HP StorageWorks
Enterprise Virtual Array conguration best practices white paper. See Best practices.
Using FATA disk drives
FATA drives are designed for lower duty cycle applications such as near on-line data replication for
back-up. These drives should not be used as a replacement for EVA’s h igh performance, standard
duty cycle, Fibre Channel drives. Doing so could shorten the life of the drive. Download the following

Failback preference setting for HSV controllers
Table 4 descri bes the failback preference mode for each of the operating systems supported with HSV
