Storage Resource Manager Enterprise Edition Installation Guide

6–12 Storage Resource Manager Enterprise Edition
Installing and Registering Plug-ins
The SRM Agent computer should have a static or long-lease DHCP TCP/IP
address.
rsh must be enabled on each Network Appliance Filer that you want to scan.
SNMP must be enabled on each Network Appliance Filer that you want to scan.
Before You Register this Plug-In
The Plug-In Registration Wizard prompts for the following information; organize it
beforehand to save time:
The network name that the SRM Agent and plug-in uses to contact the Filer via
TCP/IP.
Depending upon your network configuration, you might need to use the fully
qualified DNS name. If you can issue a ping command from the SRM Agent
computer and reach the Filer, then the name works.
The network name by which the Filer is known in the Windows NT/Windows
2000 domain, if applicable.
This name is used to scan the file system on the Filer via the CIFS protocol.
The root password on the NetApp Filer.
For successful File System Scans of the NetApp Filer, you need rsh access for
the SRMAgent Login User and Server that the proxy agent is running on. This
process requires root permissions. You must use the root password of the
NetApp Filer to update the hosts.equiv file allowing that SRM User and Proxy
Agent access to the Filer.
Using the Plug-In Registration Wizard
When registering a Filer with the SRM Server, you must follow these guidelines when
entering information in the Required Registration Information dialog box:
Filer Name — Enter the Filer name as it is known on the network.
SRM Display Name — Enter the name of the Filer in the Windows NT/Windows
2000 domain. If you do not enter this name, you might experience failures when
the SRM Server attempts to scan the CIFS file systems on the Filer. If you
experience failures, use the Modify Scan Settings for NAS page in SRM to make
the necessary changes.
Use the following guidelines when entering information in the Specific Registration
Information dialog box:
