Modifying SRM for UNIX or Linux Installations
One SRM Server can monitor multiple SRM agents, including SRM for
Windows NT/Windows 2000, and UNIX Agents.
NOTE: SRM provides UNIX Agents for IBM AIX, Sun Solaris, Hewlett-Packard HP-UX,
Compaq Tru64 UNIX, and a Linux Agent for Red Hat Linux.
Upgrading or Reinstalling an SRM for UNIX or Linux Agent
To upgrade or reinstall an SRM for UNIX or Linux Agent:
1. Insert the SRM CD into a system from which you can make the installation files
available to all target systems.
2. Transfer the files to each target system, for example, use FTP or remotely mount
(using NFS) a directory containing the files.
NOTE: UNIX agent files are in the unix_agents directory. Linux agent files are in the
linux_agents directory.
3. Type ./installsrm to start the installation program.
When installsrm detects that file /installdirectory/srmagent/srmagent already exists, it
queries the agent to determine the version. The following message displays:
Version <ver> of the UNIX SRM Agent is currently installed. Do you want to retain this
version in a local compressed TAR file in case you need to return to it (y/n)?
NOTE: installdirectory is the name of the directory where you placed the SRM Agent kit.
4. Enter y for yes. The following message displays:
Backup archive stored at /installdirectory/srmagent/backup/srmverver.tar.Z
After backup archive is completed, the previously installed files are deleted. Setup
copies the new files for the version being installed and invokes the newly installed
registersrm script.
