Using Local Cache
Local Cache is a client application that gives Windows-based Notes users offline access to their a rchived
messages. It is most useful for employees traveling with a laptop or notebook computer.
When client machines are online, users can pull copies of archived messages from the IAP into the cache,
as long as the messages fall within the parameters that are config ured for the ca che.
When client machines are offline, users can access any arch ived m essages that are in the ca che.
Whether clients are online or offline, users have one-click access to messages stored in the cache.
When they open a tombstoned messa g e and click a pointer to retrieve the message, the cached c opy
of the content is displayed.
If an archi
ved message is not stored in the cache a nd the client is offline, users see text stating that the
messa ge has been archived when they open the tombstone.
NOTE:
Local Cache can be combined with a plug-in for no-click retrieval of messages. See
Using th
e Windows Notes Client Plug-In with Local Cache”onpage123.
During installation, Local Cache creates a database, DefaultLCDestination.nsf, intheclient
machine’s notes\data\mail directory. Thecachecanbeconfiguredtosetthemessageretention

Users might not have access to the most recent messages that have been archived, depending on how
often you set the rissminer program and mining agents to run.
