NOTE: You can configure the Virtual Copy policy by using either a time or numeric-based policy.

policy will not be supported in a future release.

1. Right-click the database on which you will create the Virtual Copy policy from the navigation
tree and select Modify Configuration.
The Modify Recovery Manager Configuration Properties wizard appears.
2. Click Next until you reach the Recovery Manager Policy in the wizard.
3. Select Default expiration time and/or Default retention time.

NOTE: The Virtual Copy policy is effective immediately and only applies to newly created
Virtual Copies and not to existing ones.
Setting up a Numeric-Based Virtual Copy Policy
This feature allows you to control the number of Virtual Copies on an HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage
system using a numeric-based policy. When the maximum number of Virtual Copies is reached,
the oldest copy is removed unless it is retained. If the oldest copy is retained, you cannot create
new Virtual Copies.
NOTE: You can configure the Virtual Copy policy by using either a time or numeric-based policy.
HP recommends using a time-based policy instead of a numeric-based policy. The numeric-based
policy will not be supported in a future release.
To create a numeric-based Virtual Copy policy:
1. Right-click the database on which you will create the Virtual Copy policy from the navigation
tree and select Modify Configuration.
The Modify Recovery Manager Configuration Properties wizard appears.
2. Click Next until you reach the Recovery Manager Policy in the wizard.
3. Select Maximum Virtual Copies.
4. Enter the maximum number of Virtual Copies to be kept in the text field.
5. If you want to remove the oldest Virtual Copy, select Remove the oldest Virtual Copy, indicating
that when the maximum number of Virtual Copies is reached, the oldest Virtual Copy is removed
before a new Virtual Copy is created.
