Scheduling Virtual Copies with Windows Task Scheduler NOTE: Because the command HpRmCli Exch create communicates with Exchange, you must have Exchange administrator privileges to schedule this task. To create virtual copies using the Windows Task Scheduler: 1.
7 Rapid Backup and Recovery for Exchange Key Microsoft Exchange File Types Before describing backup and recovery for HP 3PAR Recovery Manager Software for Microsoft Exchange, you must understand the elements of Exchange. The Microsoft Exchange mailbox database uses three key file types for all operations: • Log file (*.LOG). A file in which transaction log records are stored. • Checkpoint file (*.CHK). Maintains information about the location in the transaction logs last committed to the database.
GUI, or by scheduling virtual copies either through HP 3PAR Recovery Manager or via Windows automatic scheduled task application. For more information, see “Using the Recovery Manager GUI” (page 40) or “Running HP 3PAR Recovery Manager as a Scheduled Job” (page 98). • With HP 3PAR Recovery Manager’s optional policy settings, you can maintain a specified number of the latest virtual copies to stay online.

If not in a cluster, go to the services menu and stop the Microsoft Exchange Information Store Service. NOTE: Bringing Exchange Information Store Instance resource offline will dismount all the storage groups. It is the default behavior by windows cluster as all storage group services are dependent on this service.
4. From the backup server, execute the HP 3PAR Recovery Manager command for the volume promote restore. For information about the restore-promote command, see “Using the HP 3PAR Recovery Manager for Exchange CLI” (page 64). For information on using the GUI to execute a volume restore, see “Restoring from a Virtual Copy” (page 60). WARNING! Mount the desired virtual copy for the staging Exchange server either from the HP 3PAR Recovery Manager GUI or from the command line using the HpRmCli Exch mount command.
Data Restoration Using a Recovery Database (For Exchange 2010/ Exchange 2013) A recovery database is a mailbox database that allows HP 3PAR Recovery Manager to mount a restored mailbox database and extract data from the restored database as part of the recovery operation. Recovery databases allow you to recover data from a backup or a copy of a database without disrupting access to current data. Use the Restore-Mailbox cmdlet to extract mailbox content from a restored database.
1. Verify that the database to restore is consistent and that it is in a clean shutdown state: a. Open a command prompt window. b. Change to the ExchSrvr\Bin folder. c. Enter the following: Eseutil /mh YourDatabaseName.edb d. e. 2. Press Enter. Note whether the State line shows as State: Clean Shutdown or State: Dirty Shutdown. A soft recovery should be performed immediately after the virtual copy for the database is created.
6. To restore specific email messages, enter: Restore-Mailbox -Identity Scott -RecoveryDatabase -SubjectKeywords "" -ContentKeywords "" -IncludeFolders \,\ 7.
How Recovery Storage Groups Operate In previous versions of Exchange Server, a separate Microsoft Active Directory forest needs to be configured on a recovery server if you want to mount another copy of a production Exchange database, or to mount a different version of a production Exchange database. With the Recovery Storage Group feature in Exchange Server, a separate recovery computer is not always required when you want to recover data from a mailbox store.
1. Verify that the database to restore is consistent and that it is in a clean shutdown state. a.
5. If databases are currently mounted in the Recovery Storage Group, do the following: a. Dismount the databases. b. Use the Eseutil.exe tool to verify that the databases are in a clean shutdown state. i. Open a command prompt window. ii. Change to the ExchSrvr\Bin folder. iii. Enter: Eseutil /mh iv. v. vi. 6. 7. Press Enter. Note whether the State line shows as State: Clean Shutdown or State: Dirty Shutdown. If the databases are consistent, delete all transaction log files (.
8 Coexistence of HP 3PAR Recovery Manager for Exchange and HP 3PAR Recovery Manager for SQL Prerequisites • Only backup server component of HP 3PAR Recovery Manager for Exchange and HP 3PAR Recovery Manager for SQL applications can be installed on the same server. • Mixing the backup server and production server components in coexistence scenario is not supported. • HP 3PAR Recovery Manager for Exchange and HP 3PAR Recovery Manager for SQL applications must be installed and launched independently.
9 Using HP 3PAR Peer Motion Manager Software with HP 3PAR Recovery Manager HP 3PAR Peer Motion Manager is a feature of the HP 3PAR OS Software and manages the migration of data in between existing storage systems or third party storage arrays. HP 3PAR Recovery Manager now supports HP 3PAR Peer Motion Manager data migration activities without any impact on host operations while monitoring the primary storage system.
10 Using HP 3PAR CLX with HP 3PAR Recovery Manager Single Copy Cluster (SCC) is a shared storage failover cluster solution consisting of two or more nodes. There is one copy of the Exchange databases with this solution. However, because this solution is based on a shared storage, third-party array-based replication solution like HP 3PAR Remote Copy synchronous & asynchronous replication can be used to have more than one copy of the Exchange databases.
The backup server on each site can only manage the Exchange server storage group/databases which are owned by nodes on respective sites. The backup server on each site should only be configured with the array connected to nodes on that site. For Example, using provcfg configuration tool ensure that you add only site A array configuration on the Site A backup server. Similarly on site B, configure only the site B array. NOTE: Ensure that only one array is configured on each backup servers.
11 Remote Copy for HP 3PAR Recovery Manager Overview HP 3PAR Remote Copy Software helps to safeguard against disasters that might occur at one location by allowing you to keep copies of data on a separate server, which can be placed at a remote location. To maintain updated copies of data at a remote location, Remote Copy uses two HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage Systems: a primary server (used for production) and a backup server which can be located at a different site.
NOTE: User can make use of the Expiration policy settings of HP 3PAR Recovery Manager in which case those retained virtual copies are removed by the StoreServ after the expiration period has elapsed. Setting Up Remote Copy 1. Install and configure Remote Copy. For more information, see the HP 3PAR Remote Copy Software User’s Guide. NOTE: Be sure to configure the backup server with the same name, structure, and Windows authentication mode settings as the primary server. 2. Use the provcfg.
• If you are using asynchronous Remote Copy, you can create HP 3PAR Recovery Manager virtual copies even if policies on the servers do not match. If policies do not match, the virtual copies use the policies on the Remote Copy backup server. • When running Remote Copy in a Synchronous Long Distance configuration, the virtual copies on the synchronous and asynchronous periodic Remote Copy backup servers do not have the exact same timestamp.
NOTE: If you are performing a promote restore for volumes in a Synchronous Long Distance Remote Copy relationship, you must manually stop Remote Copy before initiating the volume promote restore. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 134 On the backup server, use HP 3PAR Recovery Manager to mount the virtual copy to the production server. Log on to the production server and stop the Exchange instance and its dependent services.

C Troubleshooting Known Issues • When HP 3PAR CLI is not installed using HP 3PAR Recovery Manager Software for Exchange setup: ◦ If the certificate is not saved for current StoreServ username used by HP 3PAR Recovery Manager Software for Exchange, errors occur for all HP 3PAR Recovery Manager Software for Exchange tasks or HP 3PAR VSS Provider tasks, except for new StoreServ registration command in HP 3PAR VSS Provider.
Known Microsoft Issues • On a computer that is running a clean installation of Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows Server 2008, an event ID 10 may be logged in the System log by VDS Dynamic Provider. For more details, see the Microsoft Support website: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948275 • Under some conditions, there may be an issue when deleting folders on directory-mounted virtual volumes. This is a Windows known issue. For more details, see the Microsoft Support website: http://support.
Make sure that the communication port for HP 3PAR Recovery Manager is set to be the same on all HP 3PAR Recovery Manager installed systems. You need to restart the HP 3PAR Recovery Manager for Exchange Agent service on every system followed by the port change command. If the firewall or security monitoring software is installed, verify that the communication port and remote registry service ports (139 and 445) are allowed for access. Problem: HP 3PAR Recovery Manager cannot locate the Exchange Server.
Timeout for backup initialization detection can be modified to accommodate the timing issue. Refer to the HpRmCli Exch config command for more information. Problem: NetBackup takes a substantial amount of time to complete a backup process. Suggestion: Make sure that the latest maintenance package is installed for NetBackup application. For more information, refer the latest Single Point of Connectivity Knowledge for HP Storage Products (SPOCK) document.
to run through. The locking file is located under: \Exchange\vclock. To reset the lock, use the HpRmCli Exch reset command . Problem: The event viewer shows the following message when a virtual copy creation is in progress. Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error IOCTL_STORAGE_QUERY_PROPERTY(\\.\PHYSICALDRIVE2, StorageDeviceProperty) - BuildLunInfoForDrive.
HP 3PAR Recovery Manager takes too long to create a virtual copy. Suggestion: Once the snapshot is created, it is verified and .log files are truncated. For this, the checkpoint is fetched and log file names are traversed one by one. This may take a longer due to a large number of .log files for a mailbox database/storage group. If a virtual copy creation is taking too long, check the virtual copy creation with the -nc option. This will skip log verification and log truncation.
Problem: The Remote Copy status for volume group does not permit synchronization. Suggestion: The involved Remote Copy group has virtual volumes that are not in the synchronized state. Wait until all virtual volumes in the group display synchronized state and then retry the operation.
NOTE: • The port used should be the same on both backup server and production servers. Find out and stop the application using the default port of HP 3PAR Recovery Manager for Exchange To find out the application using the default port: 1. Open the command prompt. 2. Run netstat -ano | find "” Example c:\>netstat -ano | find "9933" UDP 10.10.5.32: 9933 *:* 1252 UDP 16.154.142.171: 9933 *:* 1252 UDP 127.0.0.
3. In case of one click backup, though the virtual copy is marked for deletion, the virtual copy does not get removed. 4. Virtual copy will not be unmounted. Suggestion: To overcome the above use case user must manually run the nbucleanup command. Exchange 2007: hprmcli exch nbucleanup -s -g -t [-domain ] Parameters Description Backup completion status in NBU,DP or BE.
Suggestion: HP recommends that you click the Cancel button, stop the HP 3PAR Recovery Manager for Exchange service and HP 3PAR VSS Provider service. If any user other than the logged in user is connected to the system, the connection must be terminated. Check the Task manager to find out if any of the inactive or logged off sessions for HP 3PAR Recovery Manager for Exchange exist and end all such tasks. Close all Event Viewer windows. Try the uninstallation of the product again.
If you have configured StoreServ during HP 3PAR VSS Provider installation or using HP 3PAR VSS Provider provcfg utility, and later changed the TPDCERTDIR environmental variable or moved certificate from one location to another location, then you might encounter the following error: Suggestion: Use the provcfg.exe utility provided with HP 3PAR VSS Provider to recreate an expired, an invalid, or a new certificate.
After making these changes, restart the NBU services.
Problem: Sometimes NBU job submitted from HP 3PAR Recovery Manager for Exchange gets completed from NBU side, but HP 3PAR Recovery Manager for Exchange GUI still shows that backup job is in progress. Suggestion: It might be because Microsoft .NET DLLs did not get loaded properly, or it failed to load during Recovery Manager for Exchange NBU cleanup process. You must reinstall Microsoft .NET v4.0 on affected server, and retry the Recovery Manager for Exchange Backup commands.
Then hostname created on HP 3PAR Storeserv side must be rmebackupsvr.2k10vfc.
