System, HP 3PAR T-Class Storage System, and HP 3PAR F-Class Storage System – all in 64-bit mode. • Chunklet size on HP P10000 3PAR Storage Systems has been increased to 1GB. Chunklets are the first layer of mapping in the InForm OS advanced internal virtualization that increases storage management efficiency, capacity utilization, and performance. Chunklets virtualize physical drives of any size into a pool of granular, uniform-sized virtual disks.
Storage System or moving a large number of volumes between tiers. Dynamic Optimization first analyzes how volumes are using physical disk space and which resources were added to the system. It then makes intelligent, autonomic adjustments to ensure optimal volume distribution of storage volumes.
Additional Ease of Use Enhancements • Greater number of simultaneous Full Copy operations and promote operations enables use of Full Copy more broadly and at greater scale. • SMI-S 1.4 and SNMP v3 support enables enhanced standards-based management of HP 3PAR Storage Systems. • InForm OS CLI client now supports the IPv6 standard.
System startup after 24 hour shutdown requires manual intervention Prior to InForm OS 3.1.1, an HP 3PAR array could be shut down for extended periods of time and when powered up again, the array would automatically complete its boot sequence and no manual intervention would be required to return the array to normal functioning. As of InForm OS 3.1.1, if the array is shut down for a period of more than 24 hours, when the array is powered up, it will fail to complete its boot sequence automatically.
Bug ID Item Description Unit Attention on the LUN to indicate to the initiators accessing the LUN that the reservation has been cleared. 12 46454 Associators and References In previous releases, Associators and References on on TPD_StorageClientSettingData failed to return associations to TPD_StorageClientSettingData TPD_StorageHardwareID. This has been fixed. fails to return associations to TPD_StorageHardwareID.
Bug ID Item Description 51523 R5 IDs incorrectly checked Corrected signed/unsigned 32–bit overflow issue so that R5 logical disks are now correctly checked regardless of size. 51846 A Node down SNMP trap is not generated. Fixed an issue in which a Node down SNMP trap is not generated if the node with the active Ethernet connection was forcefully removed.
Bug ID Item Description 55218 Empty virtual volume set export error message The error message when an empty virutal volume set was exported was not clear. Because exporting a virtual volume set isn't a logical action this action is no longer allowed. 56082 LUN auto-choose Auto-choosing a LUN for a host that saw active exports using a host set would sometimes incorrectly fail. The checks for host set exports have been improved to resolve this issue.
Bug ID Item Description 58852 Recovery requires user intervention During a power failure or multi-node panic recovery, there were some cases in which the system required user intervention in the form of issuing a setsysmgr force_iderecovery command. These cases were a) when all but one node had saved data without proper handshake with the missing node and b) when the system was in the process of creating a volume (base or snapshot) when the save occurred.
Bug ID Item Description received that spanned two logical disks with different owners. The I/O was split and passed to the logical disk owner nodes; however, if one of these nodes failed , the backup node took over and completed the I/O. This was where the remote copy miscompare was happening, although the backup node reliably completed the I/O to the base volume on the primary, it did not issue the remote copy request. This has been fixed.
To allow users to authenticate while also requiring a certificate with SSL, recreate the certificate used by the LDAP or Active Directory server and sign it with SHA. A less secure option is to configure LDAP authentication with SSL but not require a valid certificate by using the setauthparam command to set the ldap-reqcert parameter to 0.
• Policy zero_detect enabled on a Thin Provisioned Virtual Volume • A host uses any of the following methods to write 16KB page aligned zeros to the TPVV: • ◦ Host issuing SCSI WRITE command ◦ Host issuing SCSI WRITE_SAME command (for example, ESX hosts use SCSI WRITE_SAME when using the VAAI plugin) Workaround — To avoid this issue, the TPVV must be kept at the default setting of tp_bzero policy.
Before downgrading from InForm OS 3.1.1 to InForm OS 2.3.1, ensure that all read/write snapshots are removed from Remote Copy groups. Issues Preventing Downgrades from InForm OS release 3.1.1 to InForm OS release 2.2.4 These issues will prevent an HP 3PAR Storage System from downgrading from InForm OS release 3.1.1 to InForm OS release 2.2.4. • Dual SD Space - As of InForm OS 2.3.1, Thin Provisioned virtual volumes can have two Snap Data (SD) volumes.
Issues Causing a Change to the InForm Configuration The following issue causes a change to the InForm configuration when downgrading from InForm OS release 3.1.1. • Host Personas - If a system running InForm OS release 3.1.1 is downgraded, host persona fields are cleared and the old port persona settings resume effect. However, these settings are not kept up-to-date nor are they converted back on downgrade, so they will not reflect any configuration changes made since loading 3.1.1.
Windows 2003 Pop-Up Client machines running the Windows 2003 operating systems receive an unknown device pop-up from Windows Plug and Play security checking when connecting to a 2.3.1 InServ Storage Server system. • Workaround: To avoid this device pop-up message you can install the NULL driver for 3PAR SCSI Enclosure Service device located on DCS.
also during the resync periods. The snapshots end up using administrator space depending on the IOPS and throughput load on the Remote Copy volumes. • Workaround: Use setcpg -sdgs to increase the default grow increment. The recommended value is 96 GB. controlport Configuration Gives Warning after Being Taken Offline (Bug 44989) Using the -f option with controlport config, the system responded with a confirmation request, or refused to force the mode change.
3 HP 3PAR InForm OS CLI Release Notes Installation Notes for the InForm OS CLI Virus Checking Virus checking is known to slow down and potentially cause problems with installation of the InForm OS CLI. Before attempting an install or uninstall of the InForm OS CLI, shut down all running applications and disable virus-checking software. What’s New in the InForm OS CLI The following features have been added/removed for InForm OS 3.1.1 CLI: InForm OS CLI support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.
Category Command Description System showsys -d The –d option now displays chunklet size in MB as either 256 or 1024 depending on system type Virtual Copy promotesv -pri New option -pri to improve the performance of promote operations Physical Copy creategroupvvcopy -pri New option -pri to improve performance of the group copy operation createvvcopy -pri New option -pri to improve the performance of copy operation Copy Services Drive Enclosure Management Physical Disks admitpd -f New option

Deprecated Commands and Options Logical Disks Ports setcpg The –sa, –sd, and -aw options to the setcpg command have been deprecated and will be removed in a future release. createald The command has been deprecated. createld The command has been deprecated. controlport • The –m option to the controlport rst command has been deprecated and will be removed in a future release. Use controlport config to set target (host) or initiator (disk) modes.
Modifications to the InForm OS CLI Bug ID Item Description N/A showtarget command The command functionality is new. It will display remote volumes in showtarget but not in showpd. It will also display the SCSI inquiry and mode page information. N/A createvv, createtpvv, setvv, createaldvv, createavv, and createtemplate commands Changed HPC limit from 1024 to 255.
Bug ID Item Description 55785 showvv -cpg command enhancement In previous releases, the showvv -cpg command only listed the base volumes belonging to a CPG. This has been modified so that both the snapshots and the base volumes belonging to a CPG are listed.
Bug ID Item Description blocks can cause uncontrolled boundary can run into this defect. The defect was caused by inconsistent shutdown of node large I/O size checking in two places in system. The fix is to make both size checking consistent. 68507 Reduce logging of SCSI events Earlier InForm OS releases could generate a large number of event log entries of the forms "Mode Sense 0x1C event sent to sysmgr" and "SCSI CPG request". Generation of these event log entries is suppressed in this release.
Bug ID Item Description Workaround: Pass virtual volume sets that are not empty to the createvvcopy command. 45413 Integer arguments to CLI commands with leading 0 (zeros) are treated as octal numbers. The CLI shell is a TCL-based shell, as such it parses integers with leading 0 (zero) as octal numbers, just like many other languages and shells (bash, perl, etc). Consequently, integer arguments passed to the CLI commands are also treated as octal numbers if they have a leading 0.
4 InForm OS 3.1.1 MU1 Release Notes Online Upgrade Considerations CAUTION: SP-2.5.1.GA-19 P005 is a mandatory prerequisite Service Processor patch required when upgrading from 3.1.1 GA to 3.1.1 MU1. This feature allows the upgrade of the InForm OS concurrently with I/O activity on the attached hosts, provided certain conditions are met. For further information and pre-planning of Rolling Upgrades, refer to the latest version of the HP 3PAR InForm OS Upgrade Pre-Planning Guide.
Modifications to the InForm OS The following items have been addressed in this release. Bug ID Item Description 31968 Logging of failed SSH logins While failed logins from using the CLI and IMC clients have always been logged, failed logins using SSH were not logged. A failed login via SSH will now be reported in the event log. 58471 Degraded disk causes P10000 Storage System cage to go offline When the link comes up, the driver issues PLOGIs to all devices in parallel.
Bug ID Item Description connection with the Storage System 64033 Permanent failure alerts of a Backup Battery Unit (BBU) are not cleared by NEMOE NEMOE issues an alert when a BBU has a fault but will also attempt to recover the BBU. In the event when the BBU permanently fails, NEMOE will issue another alert. When a failed BBU is replaced with a new fault-less BBU, NEMOE should clear the pending alerts but is unable to and the showbattery command will show the status of the new BBU as Failed.
Bug ID Item Description 66592 Node sensor fails and recovers intermittently A problem in the code used to detect the state of node sensor could cause a node to enter a Degraded state incorrectly. This has been fixed in InForm OS 3.1.1 MU1 66806 Internal resource mismanagement can cause system hang under heavy defrag load Host IO during heavy internal defrag load could result in a system hang. This has been fixed in InForm OS 3.1.1 MU1.
Limitations of the InForm OS Unsupported Remote Copy Across InForm OS Levels Remote Copy is only supported between adjacent HP 3PAR InForm OS release levels. HP 3PAR Storage System running InForm OS 2.2.4.nnn may not be in a Remote Copy configuration with a Storage System running InForm OS 3.1.1 GA or 3.1.1 MU1.
