3PAR InForm OS Concepts Guide InForm OS Version 2.2.4
2.1.3.4 The Admin Volume
As part of installation and setup, a base volume called the admin volume (or administrative
volume), is created on the system. This volume is used by the system to store administrative
data such as the system event log and is always named admin. This volume cannot be
exported and cannot be removed from the system. It is strongly recommended that you not
tamper with this volume.
2.1.4 LUNs and VLUNs
For a host to see a virtual volume, the volume must be exported as a Logical Unit Number
(LUN) by creating VLUNs, or virtual volume-LUN pairings, on the storage system. When you
create VLUNs, the system produces both VLUN templates, that establish export rules, and
active VLUNs, that hosts then see as LUNs, or attached disk devices.
Refer to Chapter 9, Virtual Volumes Exports, for more information about active VLUNs, VLUN
templates, and VLUN template types.

In addition to the InForm software suite, 3PAR also offers several separately licensed products,

NOTE: With a 3PAR Remote Copy license, virtual copies can be copied from one
InServ Storage Server to another using 3PAR Remote Copy. For additional
information, see the 3PAR Remote Copy User’s Guide.
NOTE: To verify the licenses currently issued for use on your system and to learn
about adding features to enhance system flexibility, asset utilization, and
