Online Upgrade Considerations
This feature allows upgrade of the OS concurrently with I/O activity on the attached hosts, provided
certain conditions are met. For more information regarding the required order for upgrade and
installation of software components, see the HP 3PAR OS 3.1.3 Upgrade Instructions (P/N
QL226-97721). For further information and pre-planning of online upgrades, refer to the latest
version of the HP 3PAR OS Upgrade Pre-Planning Guide. To obtain a copy of this documentation,
go to http://www.hp.com/3par/support_manuals, select your product, and then click Manuals.
WARNING! If you are upgrading from HP 3PAR OS 3.1.3 GA to HP 3PAR OS 3.1.3 MU1, you
MUST install HP 3PAR OS 3.1.3 GA Patch 02 before proceeding with the upgrade to MU1.
NOTE: Customers running HP 3PAR OS 3.1.1 and wishing to upgrade to HP 3PAR OS 3.1.3
must upgrade to the latest 3.1.2 Maintenance Update (MU) before upgrading to 3.1.3. For
customers running HP 3PAR OS 3.1.1, the upgrade path is to 3.1.1 MU3 to 3.1.2 MU5 to 3.1.3
with appropriate patches installed at each stop. Direct upgrade from HP 3PAR OS 3.1.1 GA to
HP 3PAR OS 3.1.2 MUx is not supported.

What’s New in the OS
HP 3PAR Online Import for EMC Storage
• 3PAR Online Import enhancements includes adding online data migration support from source
legacy EMC VNX (first generation) family of storage systems and EMC CLARiiON CX4 family
of arrays to HP3PAR StoreServ Storage systems
• Orchestration is available using a simple, scriptable command interface tool called HP 3PAR
Online Import Utility for EMC Storage, available as a free download utility from HP Software
Depot
• Allows for online data migration from EMC Storage systems to HP 3PAR StoreServ Storage
systems with minimal disruption to hosts
• Works with existing Online Import licenses that are bundled with 3PAR OS Suite that ships
with every new HP 3PAR StoreServ 7000, HP 3PAR StoreServ 10000 and All-flash-array, HP
3PAR StoreServ 7450 Storage systems
Changeable UDID Support for OpenVMS
New option, –udid for the setvv command that may be used to specify a user defined UDID
for volumes that will be exported to OpenVMS hosts.
