of memory and the database space needed. Instructions for using the spreadsheet are included in
the spreadsheet.
3PAR InServ Storage Server Requirements
2.2.4 and 2.3.1. releases of the InForm Operating System.
Adaptive Optimization is only supported for the 2.3.1 MU1 or later InForm Operating System.
The maximum CPG size supported when region data sampling is enabled for Adaptive
Optimization is 250 TiB.
The maximum Adaptive Optimization configuration size is limited to 125 TiB.
Database Selection
Before installing the 3PAR System Reporter you must decide which database you are going to use.
System Reporter 2.8 supports the following databases:
SQLite (default, included with System Reporter). SQLite databases have significant limitations
that you should consider before opting to use them. The main limitation is that because it uses
very coarse-grain locking, it is only suited for situations requiring smaller database size and
limited concurrency. If the database size is expected to grow to more than about 1GB or if
reports are run very frequently, we recommend using either MySQL or Oracle databases. SQLite
is not supported when sampling more than one InServ storage array.
MySQL (not included), must be obtained and installed separate from System Reporter. MySQL
version 5.1 or later is supported. System Reporter uses MyISAM tables in MySQL. These tables
do not support transactions (which are not needed by System Reporter) and as a result have
very good performance even when they grow large. For very large databases and large sample
sizes, MySQL is the recommended database. The MySQL database may be on a remote database
server host, not necessarily on the machine on which System Reporter is installed.
Oracle (not included), must be obtained and installed separate from System Reporter. Oracle
version 11g is supported. Performance of sample insertion with Oracle is a little slower than that
of MySQL but Oracle is also a good choice for large databases. The Oracle database may be on
a remote database server host, not necessarily on the machine on which System Reporter is
installed. Note that 64-bit Red Hat Linux is not supported if using Oracle since it requires a 32-
bit Oracle Client to be installed and this is not supported on 64-bit Linux.
System Reporter Installation Notes
Detailed instructions are available in Chapter 3, Installation, Configuration, Update, and Removal of
the User Guide. The CD now includes a spreadsheet for sizing the system that will be used to run
System Reporter and the database system.
Prior to the System Reporter installation, the 3PAR InForm CLI must be installed. Refer to the 3PAR
InForm OS Command Line Interface for setting up the 3PAR CLI client on the host machine for
Windows platform.
