10 Internal Database
Maintenance
Overview
The IDB is an internal database, located on the Cell Manager that keeps information
regarding which data is backed up, on which disks it resides, the result of backup
and recovery sessions, and which disk arrays are configured.
What is the IDB used for?
The information stored in the IDB enables the following:
Fast and convenient restore
You are able to browse sessions to be restored.
Backup management
You can verify the result of backup sessions.
For more information, see the online Help index: “IDB”
Configuring the IDB Backup
An essential part of the IDB configuration is configuring the backup of the IDB itself.
Once the IDB backup is performed regularly, the most important preparation for
recovery in case of a disaster is done. The IDB recovery is essential for recovery of
other backed up data in case of the Cell Manager crash.
Consider the following when configuring the IDB backup:
Schedule the IDB backup to be performed once per day. This ensures that you
always have an almost up-to-date backup of the IDB.
Do not overwrite the previous IDB backup with the new one (keeping several
copies is suggested).
If possible, store the IDB backups on more fault tolerant system.
