HP Application Recovery Manager software A.06.10 Concepts guide (March 2008)

The IDB contains information about backup details such as, backup durations
and session IDs
Runs core Application Recovery Manager software
Runs Session Managers that start and stop backup and restore sessions and write
session information to the IDB
You can manage the Cell Manager from any system on the network on which the
Application Recovery Manager graphical user interface (GUI) is installed. Therefore,
you can have the Cell Manager system in a computer room while managing
Application Recovery Manager from your desktop system. The GUI and the Cell
Manager systems can run on UNIX and Windows operating systems; they do not
have to run the same operating system.
The system with the Cell Manager can host other components of the cell such as the
user interface, or, for installation purposes, the Installation Server.
Installation Server
The Installation Server holds a repository of the Application Recovery Manager
software packages for a specific architecture. The Cell Manager is by default also
an Installation Server. At least two Installation Servers are needed for mixed
environments: one for UNIX systems and one for Windows systems. For details on
the Installation Server, see the HP Application Recovery Manager software installation
and licensing guide.
Application systems
Each application system for which replicas are to be created must have the following
Application Recovery Manager components installed:
A Disk Array Agent or ZDB Agent, which controls interaction between the
Application Recovery Manager Cell Manager and the array on which the
application database/filesystem is installed. Each supported type of array has
its own dedicated agent.
An Application Integration Agent, which controls interaction between the
Application Recovery Manager Cell Manager and the application. Application
Recovery Manager requires the agent to perform functions such as controlling the
state of the database during the backup and restore sessions for database
applications. Without it, only filesystem backup is available.
