HP StorageWorks Fabric OS 5.2.3 Release Notes (AA-RWEYD-TE, November 2007)

Access Gateway
IMPORTANT:
Access Gateway is supported only in the following HP products:
Brocade 4Gb SAN Switch for HP p -Class BladeSystem (Brocade 4012 )
Brocade 4Gb SAN

Please check h
ttp://www.hp.com for the latest updates.
Access Gateway mode is not supported if any half-high BladeServers (BL3xp) are congured in the
same sleeve within the p-Class enclosure.
Access Gateway allow s a switch to operate in a special agmode that allows simplied connectivit y
betweenlargenumbersofserversandtheSAN.AccessGatewayleveragesNPIV(N_portID
vir tualization) to hide the complexity of the servers (both p hysical and virtual) attached to it while allowing
easy SAN connectivity. The edge fabric switch p rovides all the fabric services while Access Gateway
connects to the edge switch by what appears as a Host Bus Adapter (HBA) connection. This architecture
allows the deployment of many additional servers without requiring a domain and the associated fabric
rebuild trafc that is prevalent when switches are powered on, or added, or removed from a fabric.
Refer to the Brocade Access Gateway Administrator’s G uide available on h
ttp://www.hp.com/go/san
for more information.
Access Gateway support in McData fabrics
In addition to being s uppor ted in Brocade fabrics, Access Gateway is supported for connectivit y in the
following:
McDATA fabrics running EOS 09.00.xx with B rocade FOS 5.2.1b
Cisco fabrics running SAN-OS 3.0(2a) with Brocade FOS 5.2.1b
Dynamic Ports on Demand (DPOD)
IMPORTANT:
DPOD is supported only in the following HP product:
Brocade 4Gb SAN Switch for HP c- Class BladeSystem (Brocade 4024)
Please check h
ttp://www.hp.com for the latest updates.
DPOD is an optional feature on the embedded switches listed above. DPOD takes the expansion
capabilit y of xed Ports on Dem a nd (PODs) and adds the exibility of connecting to any available port
as long as a valid license is available. Previously, POD allowed only specic ports to be utilized. With
DPOD, any physically available por t can be made active as long as a valid license is available. This
allows customers the exibility of automatically changing port assignments where previously the port
assignments were xed and inexible.
Reliab
ility, Availability, Serviceability (RAS)
Audit logging provides logs per user-generated events, such as security violation, zoning, rmware
download, and conguration changes.
Cong
uration management enhancements improve switch availability by allowing Fabric Watch
and SNMP parameter changes to be non-disruptive.
Firmware upgrade enhancements provide clearer error messages and remove the n e ed to enter
rele
ase.plist in the command line.
Daemon restart/monitoring restarts management daemons automatically when they fail without
switch reboot:
