HP DC SAN Backbone Director Switch Hardware Reference Guide (5697-2158, August 2012)

Recommendations for cable management
Manage cables as follows:
Plan cable management before installing the blade.
Leave at least one meter of slack for each port cable. This provides room to remove and
replace the blades, and helps prevent the cables from being bent to less than the minimum
bend radius.
HP DC Switch Encryption FC blade (FS8-18) overview
NOTE: The HP DC Switch Encryption FC blade (FS8-18) is used in the DC SAN Director .
The FS8-18 encryption blade is a high performance 16-port autosensing blade with data
cryptographic (encryption/decryption) and data compression capabilities designed for enterprises
to secure their data against theft or unauthorized use and to compress tape data for maximum
utilization of tape media. The encryption blade is a network-based solution that secures data-at-rest
for disk array LUNs.
NOTE: With the release of Fabric OS 6.3.0, encryption is supported with tape in addition to
disk, but not concurrently. With the release of Fabric OS 6.4.0, concurrent disk and tape support
is provided with encryption.
The FS8-18 blade provides the following features:
16 autosensing F_Ports, FL_Ports, E_Ports, EX_Ports, and M_Ports at 8 Gb/s FC ports
16 SFP media interfaces
Encryption engines
Key management/generation
Key management with the following hardware interfaces:
Two 1000 Base-T copper type media interfaces
One smart card interface
Security supervisor tamper detection and response capability
Common Criteria (CC) EAL-3 compliant
Optional items
You can purchase 16 SFP transceivers separately. See Table 4 (page 15) for transceiver part
numbers.
Installing and configuring the FS8-18 blade
To configure the FS8-18, complete the tasks in this section.
Installing the FS8-18 blade
NOTE: The procedure below summarizes the steps involved in installing the FS8-18 blade. For
more detailed installation information, see Installing a Director blade (page 65).
To install the FS8-18 blade:
1. Select an empty slot in the Director.
2. Adjust the ejectors to the open position, align the flat side of the blade inside the upper and
lower rail guides in the slot, and slide the blade into the slot until it is firmly seated.
3. Adjust the ejectors to the closed position by pulling them away from the center of the blade.
4. Verify that the power LED on the port blade displays a steady green light. If it does not turn
on, ensure that the blade is firmly seated.
