Replacing an mSFP optical transceiver
1. Insert the cable into the new transceiver until the latching mechanism clicks.
2. Position the optical transceiver so that the key is oriented correctly to the port. Insert the
transceiver into the port until it is firmly seated and the latching mechanism clicks.
Transceivers are keyed so that they can be inserted only with the correct orientation. If the
transceiver does not slide in easily, make sure that it is correctly oriented.
Replacing the DC SAN Director chassis
This section describes how to replace the DC SAN Director chassis (with its backplane). The basic
steps are:
1. “Verifying the need to replace the chassis (page 83).
2. Recording critical DC SAN Director and SAN information (page 83).
3. Disconnecting from the network and the fabric (page 87).
4. Removing components from the chassis (page 87).
5. Installing the replacement chassis (page 87).
6. Installing components into the new chassis (page 88).
7. Configuring new chassis serial number (page 89).
8. Verifying that the system is operating correctly (page 90).
9. Reconnecting to the network and the fabric (page 91).
10. Verifying that the configuration of the fabric is correct (page 93).
CAUTION: Wear a grounded ESD strap when handling DC SAN Director components and port
blades. The chassis provides a grounding connection above the power connectors. Also, store
ESD-sensitive components in antistatic packaging.
NOTE: The DC SAN Director must be removed from the fabric and powered off to perform this
procedure. Contact HP if you have any questions about whether the chassis requires replacement.
The chassis replacement takes approximately 3 hours. The following items are required for the
chassis replacement:
ESD grounding strap
ESD grounding pads for protecting all blades and WWN cards
Serial cable and workstation computer with a terminal emulator application (such as
HyperTerminal for Windows systems or TIP for Solaris systems), required only if you are using
a serial console session
Pallet jack or hydraulic or assisted lift that raises a minimum of 140 cm (55 in) and carries a
minimum of 113 kg (250 lb)
