HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager Administrator Guide (T3680-96069, June 2012)

2 Setting up the replication manager
This chapter describes replication manager setup and configuration. For installation information,
see the HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager Installation Guide.
HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager environment
HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager supports communication with one local HP P6000
Command View server-based management system and one or more HP P6000 Command View
array-based management systems. However, support is subject to the limits on the number of arrays
and objects that HP P6000 Replication Solutions Manager can manage. For more information,
see the HP P6000 Enterprise Virtual Array Compatibility Reference . If HP P6000 Replication
Solutions Manager is already managing the maximum number of arrays (16) through the local HP
P6000 Command View server-based management system, additional HP P6000 Command View
array-based management systems are not supported.
Figure 2 (page 21) shows the replication manager in the array environment. The replication
manager server is installed on the management server (3) with HP P6000 Command View and
optional management or end-user applications. Using HP P6000 Command View, the replication
manager communicates through the SAN (2) with HP arrays (6). Replication manager host agents
are installed as options on application servers (called hosts) (5) that are connected to the SAN and
store data on the arrays. The replication manager server communicates over a LAN (1) with the
host agents and the hosts they are on. Storage administrators can access the replication manager
on the management server directly or from a remote PC (4) using TCP/IP and a LAN connection
to the management server.
