Frequently asked questions
This section answers frequently asked questions regarding the migration of HP P6000 Replicaton
Solutions Manager/Oracle users to alternative solutions.
Will I have to purchase a new license to use Oracle products with HP Replication Solutions
Manager 5.1 or later?
No. Oracle is no longer supported with the replication manager; a new license is not required.
Will my existing license need to be migrated?
There is no need to migrate your existing license. Replication Solutions Manager 5.1 or later does
not have Oracle-related job templates and job verbs.
Will HP provide services to migrate users from Oracle Application Integration licenses?
Use the method described in this appendix to migrate existing Oracle-related jobs to the new
format.
Can I continue to use HP Replication Solutions Manager 5.0 if I do not want to migrate
away from Oracle integrations?
Yes.
What will happen to the Oracle-related jobs made by the Oracle template or Oracle-related
job verbs? Will they run with HP Replication Solutions Manager 5.1 or later?
No, they will not work. You will need to rewrite your existing Oracle-related jobs as described in
this appendix.
Oracle-related jobs (If you used Oracle-related job verbs of the replication manager) will not work
because HP Replication Solutions Manager 5.1 or later does not have Oracle job verb details in
the database. Therefore, these jobs will fail.
Will the database migration fail if Oracle-related jobs exist when you upgrade to HP
Replication Solutions Manager 5.1 or later?
No. The database migration will not fail when you upgrade to HP Replication Solutions Manager
5.1 or later. In fact, the migration process will also migrate Oracle-related jobs.
Will the Oracle-related jobs disappear when you upgrade to HP Replication Solutions
Manager 5.1 or later?
No. The Oracle-related jobs will not disappear. You can view or edit Oracle-related jobs after a
successful migration.
If the jobs still exist after the upgrade, can the job tasks be run?
No. Oracle-related jobs will exist but they will fail if you attempt to run them.
Is HP considering acquisitions or continued partnering to address customers' replication
manager requirements?
HP provides excellent methods for creating instant point-in-time copies of P6000/EVA-based storage
volumes. These copies can be migrated to and mounted on any other supported host in the SAN.
One advantage of this feature to the Oracle DBA is the ability to perform backup operations on
a copy of the production15 data, and to do so on a completely different host. This off-loads the
sometimes significant CPU overhead associated with the backup process from the database server
to a dedicated backup host.
