HP P6000 Cluster Extension Software Administrator Guide (5697-2274, November 2012)

5 Troubleshooting
To troubleshoot problems with P6000 Cluster Extension, you must understand HP P6000 Continuous
Access environments. See the HP P6000 Continuous Access and HP P6000 SMI-S documentation
before assuming that a problem has been caused by P6000 Cluster Extension.
Changing the P6000/EVA SMI-S user name and password
If the HP P6000/EVA SMI-S user name or password is changed through the P6000 Command
View GUI or any other method, you must change the information in P6000 Cluster Extension.
For Windows Server 2008/2008 R2/2012, see “Starting the P6000 Cluster Extension configuration
tool” (page 16).
Log facility
The logging module of P6000 Cluster Extension provides log messages to the cluster software as
well as to the P6000 Cluster Extension log file. The P6000 Cluster Extension log file includes disk
status information and is located by default in %ProgramFiles%\Hewlett-Packard\Cluster
Extension EVA\log\ directory
For example, if you need to clear and reset the log file to reduce disk space usage, archive the
log file and then delete it. A new log file is automatically generated.
Error return codes
P6000 Cluster Extension provides the following error return codes for failover operations:
DescriptionError return code
Prohibits an application service startup on the local system.
This can be caused by the inability of P6000 Cluster
local error
Extension to enable disk access, or the misconfiguration
of the storage system environment.
Prohibits an application service startup on any system in
the local data center. This error is returned if the disk state
data center error
indicates that it makes no sense to allow any other system
connected to the same storage system to access the disks.
MSCS does not allow cluster-wide or data-center-wide
disabling of resources. This is local error behavior.
Returned if the configuration or the disk state do not allow
an automatic application service startup process. Manual
global error
intervention is required in such cases. MSCS does not allow
cluster-wide or data-center-wide disabling of resources.
This is local error behavior.
When P6000 Cluster Extension is integrated into the cluster software, an error message string and
integer value are displayed. For the CLI, a return code is displayed. For more information, see
Command line utilities (page 56).
