the configuration information). When you modify the registered information, you can modify the values
other than the storage system type (whose parameter is family).
When you execute the AddStorageArray command for SMI-S Enabled storage systems, note the
following:
If one SMI-S provider manages multiple SMI-S Enabled storage systems, all of the SMI-S Enabled
storage systems supported by Device Manager will be registered into the Device Manager server
database at the same time.
If multiple SMI-S providers manage one SMI-S Enabled storage system that has already been re-
gistered in the Device Manager server database, when another of the managing SMI-S providers
is registered, the storage system will not be re-registered for that provider and will not be refreshed.
If the number of SMI-S Enabled storage systems managed by an SMI-S provider changes, you
must re-register all the storage systems into the Device Manager server database by specifying
the SMI-S provider they are registered to.
If you change the user ID or password of an SMI-S provider, you must re-register that SMI-S provider
by specifying the new user ID or password. When you do this, all the SMI-S Enabled storage
systems registered in the Device Manager server database will be refreshed.
If you change the SMI-S provider that manages an SMI-S Enabled storage system, or if you
modify the information about the SMI-S provider (such as the IP address, port number, or protocol),
you must refresh the SMI-S Enabled storage system. When you do this, specify the object ID of
the SMI-S Enabled storage system registered in the Device Manager server database and the new
SMI-S provider information.
NOTE:
When executing the AddStorageArray command for a storage system, do not shut down hosts
that are using storage system volumes, and do not stop the Device Manager agent. If you do so,
the AddStorageArray command might take longer to perform.
When using the AddStorageArray command to register storage system information, HP recom-
mends that, for the parameter userid, you specify a different user ID from user IDs that other
storage system management tools use.
If execution of the AddStorageArray command results in an error, take appropriate action
according to the error message, and then re-execute the AddStorageArray command. When
the AddStorageArray command is executed, information obtained from the storage system is
divided into transactions and stored in the Device Manager database. Therefore, if an error occurs
during processing, the configuration information in the Device Manager database becomes incon-
sistent with the configuration information of the actual storage system. If the database is inconsistent,
there might be limitations on the operations below for the target storage system. To check whether
the database is inconsistent, execute the GetStorageArray command. If a value other than 0
is written for statusOfDBInconsistency (which is displayed under An instance of
StorageArray as the result of the GetStorageArray command), the status of the database
is inconsistent. For details about the meaning of the statusOfDBInconsistency values other
than 0, see StorageArray instance on page 391.
