SCSI (Small
Computer System
Interface)
Standards that define I/O buses primarily intended for connecting storage systems
and devices to hosts through host bus adapters.
SLPR Storage Local Partition
Smart Tiers (Smart) In addition to Thin Provisioning functionality, this functionality places data on a
tier according to the I/O load. A data area that has a high I/O load is placed
in a high-speed hardware tier, and a data area that has a low I/O load is placed
in a low-speed hardware tier.
This document refers to the storage area that is created by using Smart as a
Smart pool, an actual volume that is one of the volumes making up a Smart pool
as a Smart pool volume, and a virtual volume that is created by a Smart pool
as a Smart volume.
SNMP Simple Network Management Protocol
SSD Solid-state drive
SSL Secure Sockets Layer
S-VOL (secondary
volume)
The copy destination volume of two volumes that are associated in a copy pair
by a storage system volume replication functionality.
Thin Provisioning
(THP)
Functionality that allocates virtual volumes to a host, and uses the physical
capacity this is necessary according to the data write request.
This manual refers to the storage area that is created by using THP as a THP
pool, an actual volume that is one of the volumes making up a THP pool as a
THP pool volume, and a virtual volume that is created by a THP pool as a THP
volume.
THP/Smart pool An area where THP/Smart pool volumes (actual volumes) are registered. When
a THP/Smart volume (virtual volume) has a write operation from a host, that data
is stored in a THP/Smart pool volume.
THP/Smart pool
volume
An actual volume that is one of the volumes making up a THP/Smart pool.
THP/Smart volume A virtual volume created from a THP/Smart pool (that is, is associated with a
THP/Smart pool).
tiered storage A layered structure of performance levels, or tiers, that matches data access
requirements with the appropriate performance tiers.
unallocated
volume
An LDEV for which no host paths are assigned.
URL Uniform Resource Locator
user group A group of users who use the same resources and have the same operation(s)
permission (see role) for the resources. Externally authenticated groups can be
used as user groups.
VMA Volume management area
VOLSER The label of a volume assigned by the mainframe host.
