If the above conditions are not satisfied, an attempt to install the Device Manager server might
fail or the Device Manager server might not work properly.
Also, do not change the setting for automatically generating short names even after the
installation has completed.
To check whether the user was created while the setting for automatically generating short file
and folder names was disabled, execute the following command:
dir /x /a- "Windows-system-drive:\Documents and Settings\Windows-account-
name" | find "Local Settings"
One of the following examples shows the command execution results when the setting for
automatically generating short file and folder names was enabled, and the other shows the
results when the setting was disabled. If LOCALS~1 is displayed, the user was created while
this setting was enabled.
If the user was created while the setting was enabled:
2008/01/01 18:26 <DIR> LOCALS~1 Local
Settings
If the user was created while the setting was disabled:
2008/01/01 18:26 <DIR> Local
Settings
When you specify virtual memory settings, allocate at least 1,536 MB as the paging file size.
To set the paging file size, right-click My Computer and, in the displayed menu, choose
Properties. Then, in the displayed dialog box, open the Advanced page and click
Performance Options. The allocated paging file size must be at least 1,536 MB even after
Device Manager server operation starts.
When you install the Device Manager server, specify the host name or IP address of the server
machine. When you specify the host name, make sure that the host name satisfies the
following conditions:
Number of characters: 32 bytes or less
Available characters: A-Z a-z 0-9 -
You cannot use a hyphen (-) at the beginning or end of the host name.
When you install the Device Manager server in a cluster environment, specify a logical host
name that satisfies the above conditions.
If multiple NICs are installed on the machine, during installation you will need to specify the IP
address that corresponds to one of those NICs. If multiple NICs are connected to different
networks, use the IP address of the NIC that belongs to the network to which web client is
connected.
The IP address specified during installation is also used when you specify the setting of
server.http.host property after installation is complete. For details about how to set this
property, see subsection
8-2-1 .
Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 is required to install Device Manager. If this installer does not
exist or the installer version is old, it will be automatically installed before installation of Device
Manager starts. If this is the case, you need to restart the system after Microsoft Windows
Installer 3.1 is installed. You can use the following procedure to check the version of Microsoft
Windows Installer.
a. Find msi.dll. It is usually stored in Windows-system-folder\system32.
b. Right-click msi.dll, and then choose Properties.
c. Choose the Version tab, and then check the version.
