4 Linux systems installation

This chapter explains how to install the Device Manager server on a Linux system. It discusses the

following:

• Linux system and media requirements

• Installing the Device Manager server and Common Component

• Verifying Device Manager installation

• Starting and stopping the Device Manager server

• Operating the Device Manager server database

• Uninstalling the Device Manager server and related products

• Setting kernel parameters and shell restrictions

4-1 Linux system and media requirements

When the Device Manager server is installed, XP Command View AE Suite Common Component

and the XP Provisioning Manager server are also installed. If XP Command View AE Suite Common

Component and the XP Provisioning Manager server are already installed, they are upgraded to the

latest versions.

NOTE: To use XP Provisioning Manager, you need to register the license key. For details about

how to register the XP Provisioning Manager license key, see the HP StorageWorks XP

Provisioning Manager software user guide.

The compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.3 library must be installed. Make sure that the compat-

libstdc++-33-3.2.3-47.3 library is installed before you install the Device Manager server.

The JRE is installed automatically when you install the Device Manager server.
