HP StorageWorks XP Provisioning Manager User Guide (December 2005)

Troubleshooting 152
The size of a file system or device
file added using the host setup
facility is displayed as smaller than
the logical unit size.
In the following cases, the OS
specification requires that the size of
the file system or device file created be
smaller than the logical unit size:
A Windows
®
basic disk partition is
created in a small 1 MB size for
conversion into a Windows
®
dynamic
disk.
A Windows
®
dynamic disk volume is
created in a small 1 MB size for the
management area.
An AIX
®
Logical Volume Manager
volume is created in one physical
sector smaller size for the JFS log.
The maximum size of AIX
®
Logical
Volume Manager is 127 GB because
the number of physical sectors inside a
single disk (LU) is limited to 1,016.
No action is required.
When you create a file system on a
Windows
®
host, the message
dialog box “ The disk in drive X
is not formatted. Do you want
to format it now? “ is displayed
in the Windows
®
window.
Sometimes this message is displayed
if automatic mount processing
executes when Windows
®
creates a
logical volume.
The file system has been created
normally.
Select No in the message dialog box.
An error occurs during file system
or device file creation.
The permitted maximum size of the file
system or device file was exceeded.
See the OS or file system manual
and check the permitted maximum
file system size. If the maximum
value is exceeded, the file system
cannot be created.
If the host OS is AIX
®
and uses
Journaled File System, the maximum
size is 128 GB. If the host OS is
Linux and ext2 or ext3 is being used,
the maximum size is 256 GB. This
size cannot be exceeded when
Provisioning Manager is used.
If an EFI disk label supported by
Solaris™ 9 4/03 or later is used, it is
possible to create a file system
whose size exceeds 1 TB; however,
Provisioning Manager does not
support such file systems.
The Device Manager agent might not
recognize that Dynamic Link Manager
has been installed.
Make sure that the information for
Dynamic Link Manager is displayed
in the Show Properties - host-name
subwindow. If the information is not
displayed, restart the Device
Manager agent.
The specified LU might be being used
by another volume group (including a
disabled one).
The host information might not be up
to date. Update the host information,
specify an LU that is not being used
by any other volume groups, and
then re-execute the addition
operation.
On an HP-UX host, the minor number
of the volume group for Logical Volume
Manager exceeds the value for the
maxvgs kernel parameter.
Change the value of maxvgs to be
more than the current value. The
maximum specifiable value is 256.
If the maximum value (256) has
already been specified, delete any
unnecessary volume groups
(including group files), and then re-
execute the addition operation.
