HP StorageWorks XP Provisioning Manager User Guide (December 2005)

Troubleshooting 158
Table 11-9 Troubleshooting Information: Host Settings Related to Volume Deletion
Problem Cause Recommended Action
Possible causes are as follows:
The file system to be deleted is
unmounted.
The volume group containing the
device file to be deleted is
deactivated.
The file system or device file to be
deleted does not exist or has already
been deleted.
The host information might not be up to
date. Check the status of the file system to
be deleted on the corresponding hosts.
If the file system is unmounted, check
whether it can be mounted again. If there is
a problem, update the host information
without mounting it. If there is no problem,
manually mount it using a command such
as an OS command, update the host
information, and then re-execute the
deletion operation.
If the volume group is deactivated, check
whether it can be activated again. If there is
a problem, update the host information
without activating the volume group. If there
is no problem, manually activate it using a
command such as an OS command,
update the host information, and then re-
execute the deletion operation.
If the file system or device file does not
exist or has been deleted, update the host
information.
On an HP-UX host, a file system is
created on a device file to be deleted.
The host information might not be up to
date. Update the host information. Make
sure that the file system for which the
device file to be deleted was mounted
appears in the GUI, and then re-execute
deletion of the file system.
On an HP-UX host, another mount point
exists below the mount point (file system)
to be deleted.
The host information might not be up to
date. Update the host information.
Provisioning Manager cannot handle the
configuration of the specified file system.
On an HP-UX host, an attempt was made
to delete a file system from which a
snapshot was created.
If you want to delete the file system from
which a snapshot was created, manually
unmount the snapshot file system, refresh
the host, and then re-execute the deletion
operation.
If you also want to delete the snapshot of
the unmounted file system, specify the
device file from the GUI device file tree, and
then execute the deletion operation.
An error occurs because a
process exists that is using the
file system on Windows
®
that
is being deleted.
The file system can still
continue to be operated,
although the file system cannot
be operated after restarting the
OS.
A file system on Windows
®
can be
unmounted and continues to be operated
until the OS restarts, even though another
process is using the file system.
An actual unmount operation is performed
after the OS restarts. This is why the
phenomenon described in the left column
occurs.
If you want to re-use such a file system, use
the Windows
®
command to execute mount
operations or to assign a drive letter by a
user.
A file system cannot be
deleted.
After Provisioning Manager was used to
create a file system, the host’s system
time was reset.
Reset the host to the current system time
and then re-install the Device Manager
agent. When the agent’s log information is
cleared, re-execute the deletion process.
