3 Procedures and examples
With Application Discovery, you can perform the following tasks:
Check the progress of discovery.
Define an application for discovery.
Modify the behavior of agents running on managed systems.
Set attributes that determine what events to display, where to display them, and the priority
they should have.
Starting Application Discovery
1. Enter your user name and ID into the Systems Insight Manager interface.
2. Accept the certificate required by System Insight Manager.
3. Select ToolsIntegrated ConsolesApplication Discovery .
Application Discovery opens in the main display panel of the Applications view.
Modifying agent behavior
Use the information in this section to control the Application Discovery agent from the command
line and to adapt its behavior to your environment. For ways to manage and monitor the agent
from the user interface, see these sections:
“Setting data polling interval” (page 22)
“Checking agent state” (page 16)
Install the Application Discovery agent on a managed node
See the Matrix Operating Environment installation and update guide for the appropriate operating
system for instructions on how to install the Application Discovery agent via the Systems Insight
Manager menus or manually. The Matrix Operating Environment guides are available with the
software and at http://www.hp.com/go/matrixoe/docs.
Start the Application Discovery agent
You can start the agent from the top menu or from the command line.
Using System Insight Manager to start the agent
1. Initiate this task by selecting Configure Matrix OE AgentsStart AD Agents from the top
menu.
2. Using the system list, select the HP-UX systems where you want to start an agent. Click Apply.
3. Verify the system selection and click Next.
4. A description of the action about to take place is displayed. When you are sure that you want
to complete the action, click Run now to start the agent.
Starting the agent from the command line
To start the agent from the command line on the managed node, enter the following command:
/opt/amgr/bin/amgrd
