HP Insight Management 7.3 Installation and Configuration Guide

2. At the bottom of the screen, click New... to define a new discovery task.
3. Do the following to define a discovery task:
a. Under the New Discovery area, select Discover a group of systems.
b. Provide a unique, intuitive name in the Name: field to identify the discovery task, for
example, "iLO discovery" for the iLO discovery task or "WinProLiant discovery" for the
Windows ProLiant discovery task.
c. Under the Schedule area, clear Automatically execute discovery every: because you do
not want to schedule the discovery task at this time. If you have entered an IP range and
want HP SIM to periodically check for new systems added to the network in that range,
configure how frequently you want this discovery task to be run.
d. In the Ping inclusion ranges, system (hosts) names, and/or hosts files text box, enter the
IP address, host name or IP address range of the products you are discovering. IP
addresses must be in the format; nn.nn.nn.nn. Use a hyphen to indicate an IP address
range.
4. Click Credentials... to specify sign-in and SNMP credentials for the discovery task.
You must supply credentials so that the discovery process can access your managed systems
and devices. The discovery tries each set of credentials until it finds a set that works.
5. On the Sign In tab:
a. Enter the name of an existing user account.
b. Enter the password for this user account.
c. Click Add to add more user credentials.
d. Repeat these steps to continue adding as many user credentials as required. If you specify
multiple sets of credentials, HP Systems Insight Manager tries each set of credentials in
order until it finds the credentials that work for a given product.
NOTE: The maximum number of user credentials that can be added is 10.
6. Click the SNMP tab:
a. Enter a value in the Read community string: text box that is appropriate for your network
configuration. This value is case-sensitive; public is the most commonly used string.
SNMP requests use the community string that provides a successful response. If you have
SNMP-enabled servers with read community strings that do not match the strings entered,
those servers are not discovered.
b. Click Add.
c. Repeat these steps to continue adding as many strings as needed.
7. Click OK when you have finished entering credentials to return to the Discovery page.
8. Click Configure/Repair... to configure managed systems to communicate with the CMS in
order to launch commands to the managed systems. You can keep the default settings, but
you might have to enter credentials for a privileged user. For more information about how to
enter credentials, see Step 4.
After discovering management processors, select ConfigureConfigure or Repair Agents....
Specify All Management Processors as the target. Do not select anything on the Install
Providers and Agents (Optional) screen. On the Configure or Repair Settings screen, uncheck
everything except Configure secure shell and Trust by Certificate. Then, specify user credentials
to enable HP SIM to sign-in to and configure the management processors with these settings.
9. Click OK when you are done to return to the HP Systems Insight Manager Discovery page.
10. Click Save to save the discovery task.
Repeat this procedure to create as many discovery tasks as required.
