CAUTION: HP strongly recommends using thick (VMware) or fixed size (Hyper-V) disk provisioning. If you use thin
provisioning and your VM host disk runs out of space, the appliance will crash and may not recover. You will need to
install a new appliance and restore from backup.

Up to 2500 serversServers
Up to 50 simultaneous deploymentsSimultaneous deployments
Insight Control server provisioning requires a media server to store the OS distribution, Windows
captured images for image deployment, and the full SPP version(s). The media server is a system
separate from the Insight Control server provisioning appliance and can be based on either
Windows or Linux, but must be configured as described in the Insight Control server provisioning
documentation found on the HP website http://www.hp.com/go/insightcontrol/docs. A special
Media Server Setup Utility is provided which will automate the configuration of a Windows system
as a media server.
If you will be performing any of the following functions, Insight Control server provisioning requires
that a WinPE service OS be built and then uploaded to the appliance.
• PXE booting the WinPE service OS
• Windows installations using the PXE service OS
• Any Windows image capture or deployment operations
A WinPE generation utility is provided and must be run on a configured Windows server. If your
media server is a Windows system, you can use this same server to generate WinPE.
NOTE: An uploaded WinPE is required (regardless of server model) for all Windows capture or
deployment operations or if using Matrix infrastructure orchestration (as it always uses PXE).

CMS operating systems
This section lists the Microsoft Windows operating systems that are supported on the CMS.
In addition to U.S. English, the most recent service packs for the French, German, Italian, Spanish,
and Japanese language versions of the Windows Server operating systems listed in Table 14 (page
15), Table 15 (page 15), Table 16 (page 16), and Table 17 (page 16) are supported on the CMS.
Furthermore, Systems Insight Manager supports the Simplified Chinese version of Microsoft Windows
Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 operating systems. Systems Insight Manager also supports
the Traditional Chinese and Korean language versions of these operating systems. Matrix Operating
Environment supports English, Chinese, and Japanese. Matrix infrastructure orchestration designer
supports Danish, French, German, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Italian, and Korean.
NOTE: Insight Management can only be installed on drivers with 8dot3name enabled. In general,
the c:/ drive is the default setting and 8dot3name is enabled by default. If you wish to install
Insight Management on a Windows 2012 system on drives other than c:/ use the fsutil
command to check and enable 8dot3name. Execute the following:
fsutil8dot3name set v:0
