2 Management servers
This chapter provides the minimum hardware and software requirements for three management
servers:
• A required CMS
• An optional HP Matrix KVM Private Cloud management server. For ProLiant customers wanting
to manage a KVM cloud, HP Matrix KVM Private Cloud provides a Matrix KVM Admin Console
appliance which requires its own host.
• An optional HP Insight Control server provisioning management server. For ProLiant customers
wanting to perform multi-server operating system provisioning to bare metal ProLiant and
BladeSystem servers, Insight Control server provisioning is an optional VM appliance.

Table 3 (page 8) lists the hardware requirements for a single-server CMS.

component
Any supported HP ProLiant server that fulfills the CPU, memory, and disk space requirements specified
in this chapter.
Server
HP Systems Insight Manager, HP Insight Control virtual machine management, and the HP Matrix
Operating Environment (Matrix OE) also support operating a CMS in a virtual machine on some
non-HP servers. This configuration requires the CMS to be running a supported operating system
listed in“CMS operating systems” (page 14) and a supported hypervisor listed in “CMS supported
hypervisors” (page 17).
At least 1.6 GHz (2 GHz or faster recommended).Processor
For Matrix OE, four or more processing cores are required with a minimum of 1.6 GHz processors.
The recommended configuration is eight processing cores at 2.4 GHz or later.
For memory requirements, see Table 4 (page 9).Memory
For disk space requirements, see Table 5 (page 9).Disk space
NTFSFile structure
Local or mapped DVD drive or an ISO mounting utilityDVD drive

The target directory must be on a local hard disk drive.
NOTE: For the requirements for configuring the CMS as a two-node Failover Cluster, see
“Management servers in a high-availability environment” (page 23).
For the requirements for an Integrity-based CMS running an HP-UX OS, see “HP-UX CMS
requirements” (page 94).
